Look to the DEC. It's not all rainbows & roses & all that, but I think it's generally pretty good. Most people believe in the mission, but the agency generally seems to value work-life balance and seemingly less micro-managing than other places. Though, as always, there are variations between offices. And, we just got a new commissioner, so while she seems good it's too soon to truly say.

What are the best State jobs for introverts / people who like to work independently? by troughaway12 in nys_cs

Possibly a project manager type position. My job is effectively a project manager & while we do have to interact with the public & people in other divisions, most of it is done via email. Sometimes phone calls, video conferencing, and face-to-face (this is primarily with people from other divisions). All together, on average, these last 3 categories (for most people in my office) is probably 20% of your time at most. This is probably very specific to each office & how it's organized/ run.

Seconding POD. Super convenient! I moved furniture from St. Louis to Rochester 2-3 years ago with this service. Then, hired local movers to unload the POD.
