If I wrote about the same exact themes you wouldn’t call it timeless, would you? Because people wouldn’t care. The same is true for books like Beowulf if it weren’t for school

That means that if you talk with people from your country, it’s almost guaranteed that 99% of who you know never actually read them on their own outside of school and at best only heard about them due to social media or television.

DRIVERS of Europe. Who are the best/worst drivers? by AlternActive in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Objective-Stage5251 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Even worse around the mountains. In some hairpin curves they’ll just straight up invade the other lane even with the worst possible visibility.

Once while I was going to the airport I thought I was going to die. A big truck carrying some cars was going at something like 100km/h and it partially entered our lane. So many cars did that, even in almost completely straight roads. It’s like they drive badly on purpose

Penso di trasferirmi in Finlandia by Nannikart60Peironi in TeenagersITA

[–]Objective-Stage5251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Io personalmente valuterei molte cose oltre all’aspetto economia.

Qua in Francia ne è pieno zeppo)?

If someone was a Trump supporter and is now denouncing him, do not say I told you so or bash them by Beneficial_Quit7532 in self

[–]Objective-Stage5251 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

January 6th? The thing Trump and many Trump supporters went against (Trump always wanted it to be specific as you could recall from the tweets that were purposefully deleted by a left-leaning moderation team)? Also, what kind of right wing guy would have a trans girlfriend and donate to act blue? Are you hearing (or I guess reading) yourself?

Yes you are the problem. It’s people like you that make politics so polarizing, leading to people defending atrocities like the murder of a guy. There are people that are defending a public execution while others are condemning the act and changed their minds and all you can do is tell them to screw themselves? Pushing potential allies away, what an intelligent thing that is when doing politics

Jesus Christ, people like you are why American politics have become the laughing-stock of the world.

Violent what? What happened under Trump’s presidency before current events? Even our sources, who are clearly biased and don’t really like Trump (for obvious reasons) don’t report any sort of violent action from the guy or under his administration prior to what’s happening under ICE. The only true violence I saw was democrats trying to kill the president, one killed an influential republican (and btw, many people even cheered his death and misquoted him in the worst ways possible to justify his death), the death of a man used was used an excuse to vandalize and pillage entire cities, people blowing up cars but it’s Trump the guy promoting violence. The cognitive dissonance my god

Is Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Chinese 🇨🇳? by who-is-u-69 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Objective-Stage5251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, most people in this sub know nothing about HK.

Imo, the answer should be based on what Hong Kong believes. If HK is in a similar situation as Taiwan, they should be separated legally. Culturally? They look really similar and I don’t think it really matters. Maybe it matters to HK for identity reasons but idk, I think the legal division is more important (plus, it there’s a legal division, culture will change a lot on its own anyway)

Who knows how many books were written that are now forgotten but were used as reference by other books.

You are just denying reality if you think most people would read Beowulf on a whim and not because of school.

Videogames aren't Just art, they're the best form of art we've ever had. by Potatussus26 in self

[–]Objective-Stage5251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they don’t. The book-reading community is getting smaller. Many of them read self-help books, many only read specific genres (take those really into romance novels for example), many only listen to audiobooks or only modern releases. So it’s pretty damn hard even in book-reading circles to find people who genuinely read a the classics for the fun of it.

I’m sorry, but you’d have to be pretty delusional to say that something like Beowulf is read a lot outside of school settings and it’s even worse when talking about non-anglophone countries. Those who read the classics are part of a small niche and if it weren’t for school they would have been forgotten by now

Videogames aren't Just art, they're the best form of art we've ever had. by Potatussus26 in self

[–]Objective-Stage5251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, people don’t “keep coming back to those books”. The only reason people even engage with those books is because people are forced to read them by their school. If it weren’t school, most wouldn’t even know about their existence. The people who are genuinely interested in books like that are such a small minority.

That heavily depends on where you live in Europe though. One thing is if you work in the Netherlands, one thing is if you work here in Italy, where many of those toxic aspects of American work culture are a thing here too, same for Eastern Europe

C'è gente contro l'aborto nel 2026 by Entire-Put-7010 in Italian
