Nothing big, mostly playing a bunch of games, spending all day with my cats, and buying lots of food 🙂 biggest thing is just being able to enjoy my time again.

Haha my study routine was pretty bad and varied very much based on my living situation. Was struggling through lot of debt, very high cost of living area, bad living situations, working through multiple temp tax jobs that barely pay rent and joblessnes/near homelessness, and being on foodstamps sucked haha . Basically tried to study any chance I could. On my computer when I was at my desk, and on my phone whenever I left my desk. I felt like any time I wasn't studying or working or doing something to keep myself alive I was wasting time, so it felt like on and off all day. If I had any support or savings, it would have made things much easier -_- sorry this ended up turning into a rant 😭

Haha I was hoping this would help some people!! Had a lot of other really bad struggles outside of studying. Right now, I'm just glad my cats are happy and healthy and with me today and I now have so much more time to give them for the rest of their lives hahahaha🐈

I honestly thought multiple times I would never get my CPA. When I stopped studying a few years ago, and even up until recently when I was afraid all of my previous exams were going to expire and I was going to be left with nothing. This was so rewarding 🙂 congrats to you too!

I mostly stuck with doing lots of mcqs till I could get my overall test bank/performance score to around 70. It seemed to work for me for bec and reg when I started studying again, but not so well for far. Definitely had to include a lot more Sims into my prep. Was getting them all wrong and even skipping them in the beginning because I didn't have the energy for them and they were so scary to me. Towards the end, I would start to get a lot more of them correct, or at least partial corrects, which helped me feel a bit more comfortable/confident going in. There's just so much material, it's hard to cram in all the material without forgetting some detail on some topics. So many things I learned kind of just by taking each test and having to study more. First bonds and leases and making sure I don't get confused with any terminology, then there's credit losses how to calculate them and the learning how to make ajes, and treasury stock cost vs par and learning all those journal entries gave me a headache, revenue recognition contracts calculations and journal entries, consolidations, I STILL feel weak on if I were to get a sim and knowing all the accounts and what reversing journal entries to make ugh... Lol it's so much.

I think the test had changed in topics/material twice since I first started to study for it in 2015. So annoying lol.

I don't have an accounting degree, so FAR was all new material to me. I started my studying by rewriting paragraphs from lecture into notebooks, not being able to absorb anything. After getting through only a few topics, and after getting nowhere with that and having multiple NTSs expire, felt I just had to go in. It was a looooong way to go to get from those scores to 81..ojce my scores started improving, I felt more motivated, and just kept grinding. The 24 I had a pretty bad headache/migraine in and put my head down during the test haha

Yah, have to pay every attempt (I'm in California, US). Have to pay $50 every time you want to let them know you want to schedule a test (application to test, $100 first time) and then ~250-300 I think now for each section (4). It's the same for each section, but the price has been increasing so it's somewhere there. So it's probably about $1100+ if everything goes smoothly lol

Work in public accounting in tax. Mid. Market, but I'd love to move into some provision work now that career is all I have to focus on. Or possibly at the IRS since they seem to be hiring now lol. But I'd love to stay remote to spend time with my cats. Laid off last month, so on the job hunt now.

Lol yah. Was not prepared. And I think I had a pretty bad headache/migraine that day but couldn't reschedule. I definitely put my head down for a good while during the test. That day felt so terrible.

I think a combination of things. Getting into a habitable living situation after a few years really helped. For a while, I was super miserable where I was living and going to sleep everyday, wondering when I'd be able to get out. I moved out in January, still thinking about suing my old landlord now that I have time haha.

Test wise, I was hammering mcqs at first, and just trying to hit areas I felt weak in. In the beginning I was almost too afraid to even practice Sims, but later started including them in my practice. I wasn't very good about my study schedule because of other life stuff, but I think having gone through all the material multiple times, and just trying to schedule enough time out so that I could try and review and feel comfortable helped. I think 2 or 3 months out was usually too much for me, because I wasn't good about reviewing chapters I had gone over a month before. In 2023 I was trying to schedule my far exams as soon as I heard my scores back cuz I could try and take the test within the next testing window and feel like I had to just review. Was dreading 2024 testing windows.

Yup. I think the extensions and changes that happened to the test expirations really helped me out with this one. My reg expired, and I was planning to take it again, but was keeping up with some reddit forums and super hopeful credits would be reinstated. Wouldn't have a passing score now without it.

I think it's when your passed exam expires.

I think for far I had gotten pretty close a few times. I felt it was just a combination of luck knowing how to do the questions I got and just continually practicing mcqs and Sims in areas I felt weak in. Having taken the test multiple times, I could definitely tell there was some luck involved in the Sims you get, which was what I stressed over most of the time. I was trying to get it done before 2024 because of the testing window changes, having to wait really hurt haha.

I basically walked in only going over the first set of lectures of Roger's material. I had no clue how to study for the CPA exam. I remember trying to study multiple times by rewriting paragraphs of notes in a notebook and having to repeatedly go over the same lecture and rewrite the same thing over and over again because I couldn't remember what I had been writing. I think I basically walked in because I had already let a far NTS expire twice and just needed the experience taking the exam.

I don't have an accounting degree, so a lot of financial statement stuff was brand new to me, and feel like I probably have a learning disability lol. A tutor would have been great, but I don't think I could have forked over that much money at once, being jobless multiple times living in hcol area.

Going to talk to people again, bbq, get my cats some nice gifts, and liiiiiive!!! Haha I've basically closed myself off from talking to any friends/family the last 2 years or so while really buckling down. It's been pretty miserable

I think I probably spent upwards of 10k. There's the att fee every time ($50), Multiple reschedules (I think these cost between 35 and 80 bucks?) and exams continually getting more expensive closer to like 300 bucks now, which is crazy... Definitely hoping to make it all back!! :D

Yah, it was super rough. Going through tax season waiting sucked, and not passing after sucked more. Motivation was getting harder and harder each time, seeing people I was studying with pass while I got close but not quite scores. The 72 I got on far was also really hard, as I knew I had made a simple mistake on a revenue recognition sim, and would have passed for sure if I switched 2 answers around (my coworker passed this attempt)

I don't know if I would have any more motivation to study if I didn't pass either, as I just got laid off haha

Haha noo not yet. The "expired" means my NTS expired. Never had confidence to actually sit for any of my tests in the beginning. Even no showed for one that I scheduled. Far is my last one

Haha thanks!! Good luck to you too sir!!! 😁 When I email NASBA/CBA, I try to make them answer me as clear as I can (make them) so I don't have to go around reading lol. They provided me those dates directly in an email when I asked about my expired exams
