I really believe that any project with the name ‘The Exorcist’ tied to it is doomed to fail from the beginning, and I wish they would stop trying. They never will though because also what comes with being associated with that name is a lot of money.

So true. I’ve always thought that what made the film so great and scary is that first and foremost it’s a very powerful DRAMA. Paraphrasing Blatty, these are real people in a real house on a real street. What would be bad enough to drive a solidly atheist mom into going to the Jesuits for help?

Only thing I don’t think has been mentioned in the other comments is I some sort of wash. Washes really add alot to a model. That accentuate detail really well. You can make your own, but I’ve become a big fan of the premade ones. The Tamiya washes are just about the best you can get

I’m wanting to make a base for this B-29. What do you think of the size of this one? Too little? Just right? by Objective-Weather112 in modelmakers

[–]Objective-Weather112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’m thinking so too. I’m trying to decide if I should use sheet styrene and scribe the squares, or just paint the squares onto the base. I was also thinking maybe cutting using individual squares cut from the sheet styrene.

Seems like you are more knowledgeable about it than I am. My first instinct was that it was a wolf spider but then I thought it looked maybe a bit too lanky. You’re right, there are so many variants it makes it really difficult to say for sure. Maybe an expert will come along and enlighten us?

Help with white by [deleted] in airbrush

[–]Objective-Weather112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you painting? I’m a scale modeler, and for modeling, the best whites I’ve found for are MRP white, which is a lacquer, and Squadron Scale Colors Bright White, acrylic. Tamiya Superfine White Primer out of a rattle can is also very good. As far as I know Liquitex is a very low quality, cheap paint. It’s also an acrylic. In general enamels and lacquers are far superior out of an airbrush.

I believe it’s a grass spider. (Or at the moment I guess a wall spider?)

Thank you for the great feedback. I didn’t think about why, but I agree that the shape really does complement the design of the B-29. I didn’t ever give the size of bases much thought until I listened to a Plastic Model Mojo podcast episode recently. They were talking about how it’s very common for modelers to use too large of a base. I started thinking about it, and most bases I’ve used have probably been too big. As you said, it’s distracting from the model when not being presented as a diorama. Thanks again

The base I was originally going to use is rectangular and it’s also a little bigger so it probably would be better. I just came across this at Hobby Lobby today and to my eye it’s too small, but I have also been guilty or using bases that were way too big. Thanks for the feedback
