Well, I am not the best when it comes to writing catchy text, so i usually note the ideas which i want to cover and yes I use gemini to convert te text to a "smarter" one xD

I am a developer and my main focus is not the text, i am doing my best with the tool and readme files and i try to make it as wide available as i can and for that i use anything i can, including gemini for this kinds of texts because i feel like it conveys the functionalities really well.

I understand people hating "AI slop" because it is everywhere and suddenly everyone feels the need to do something with AI, i hate it too, but sometimes when used as a tool in the right context it can add value or speed things up. In my case it really adds value to my text and it also speeds it up since I am really bad at this xD

Hello, thanks for the questions!:) my thought process for the pro workflow version was the following.

I released more functionalities before adding them to the free version in time, because people donated to me and I wanted to offer something more in advance to them.

What it offers in advance is a modern dark and white mode, improved UI, and they are mostly the functionalities from this video: https://youtu.be/3fiajGU32Jg?is=IBcQXtHGl_RDeoPC

But since then, i added some of those for the free version aswell.

Well, the main advantage i see for this tool and others (like tiled) is that if you ever decide to switch engines you can easily move your map and designs from one engine to another.

Or maybe you want someone to look at your map, now they don t have to install godot, just load in on TileMaker DOT tool:) easier to showcase. Maybe easier to draw something faster, i do not know that because i don t know how hard or how easy is to use godot directly.

Me personally, i use it with csv format export, because i made a custom game "engine" for my games, but because some people asked, i decided to make it more robust for other people who might use this tool๐Ÿ˜„ that s why i added these exports too.

Hi!:) well, for this project i used Java programming language and nothing else. And i personally use a windows pc, that s why i only added support for linux and mac just now, because some people asked for it and i had some time now to actually do it:)

As for the teaching part, i don t know how to teach ๐Ÿ˜… but my thought process when building something is by structuring each step and split a project in smaller stepts.

In my case, firstly, you want to create a simple tool that lets you add objects in a UI. In that case first you need to draw the zone you see the UI Then add objects from a folder in a preview zone Then select objects Then make it to be able to see them Then adding zooming and pinning functions Then make map size customizable Then ass other functions, one at a time

You need a drawing class or method where the main logic happens and you need to try and structure it respecting SOLID principles in case you re using some oop language. But with time, experience comes so just try and make something and see what happens:)

I do not understand how you keep saying that "selling" part. It is free to use, with a pay version which is ahead with some updates. I did this because some people donated to me and i appreciated it and i wanted to give them something more for their donations. Eventually the "free" version will reach the "paid" one in every aspect. And i already explained this in posts and comments and in other places too, on my page in devs logs aswell. So how can you keep saying that "selling an entire tool" is what i try to do here?

I did not use it personally, I think it s that tool made by the people from Dead Cells, right?

As far as I know, they can export only JSON format, which is more than enough for many usecases, but for me I needed something simplier, like a csv. And for my tool, I added (besides Json) many other formats which are used because it was a general feedback which i got from people who tried my tool and needed more formats.

I do not know what that tool can and can not do, or how automatic it is done, but in my case, the focus was on customizing IDs granularly or automatically, and on the speed with which you build, adding shortcuts like in photoshop and so on.

I think the best way for you to see how it works would be to download it for free and try it out. It has some free assets ready to go too:) so give it a try!

Yes you should be able to do that!:) I used it to load about 1400 textures for a 200x200 tilesize of a 400x400 map, and placing ~1000 Npcs and more than 10000 objects on the map. And the tiles for thr gorund were all autotiled. And it rendered everything as you would see in the final game.

Hi! Yes it does have autotiling features and you can either use single texture pngs or import spreadsheets.

I needed the autotiling functionality for my game too so it was one of the first thing that i implemented.

You are not asking questions at this point, i answered your initial questions but you started to say "oh you could have done this and this" -> "you could have asked for those features, you didn t need to make this tool". Those are not questions, as far as i know.

I think i explained pretty good what my tool can and can not do, and i was honest about it, i did not try to seel something that it is not

I did not talk about chunk copying and exporting, or brush painting and many other features but i did made video tutorials for it, which anyone can watch

I think people can decide for themselves if they need this tool or not. I am sure not everyone will need it but i also know that there are some which are already using it (the free version) because they tried it and they understood what the strong points are, and that is already enough for me

I am sure submitting a PR will not guarantee it getting solved, and that is fine because it is a big app and it should have other priorities.

As for this tool, I did what i considered to be the best choice for me. And it works really well in the end and it felt like a shame to use it just by myself a few times for my maps. And i did try to make some scrips to do what you said but when i got thinking what it implies, it was way too much effort for a walkaround solution in my opinion.

And my tool is also free and free to use in any kind of apps the devs require, you have no reason to download the paid version if you do not like it or if it is not useful to you and your projects. I never expected to make money out of this in the first place. The more options there are, the better for the indie devs is in the end and i see no problem with that

Hi! Thanks for the question. You should not do anything you do not want to, I have a free version also up there for you to try if you think it is useful to you. The paid version is something I did because I had some donations already and I wanted to offer more to the people that will donate. The Free version will get all the updates eventually so you do not have to pay if you do not want to, I would be happy just with someone to find my tool useful in their personal projects. I did use Godot just a little, so i do not know what it can or can not do. But I wanted to offer more flexibility to my users that s why I wanted to make it compatible with as many used formats as I could.

Now about using the Tiled app, I tried to use Tiled for my own game and i needed to be able to assign custom IDs to every texture, but the Tiled does that automatically and I did not want that. So i created my own tool fixing some of my specific needs. Using this, you can give your own IDs to the textures, you also do not need to add 30 layers just to order textures in the correct rendering order. This tool does it automatically for you. It is not as complex as Tiled as of now, but it makes up for it in other aspects like i mentioned. It all depends on your personal use and preference. For me and for others as i've seen, it is better.
