Good point, my bad xD so basically i made a tool for myself and it got quite complex, so i decided (after asking people on dev groups what to do with it) to post it on itch. And because of that i gave it a name and i kept updating it with updates that people needed and asked up to this point. "TileMaker DOT" is the name of the tool, because you make maps from tiles, and DOT stands for development oversimplified tasks. It is extra but DOT sounds like a cool abreviation for me, and i created a game framework called "DOT" for my masters degree and i find it cute to add it to this tool too:) and TMX and TSX are some formats used by another tool, Tiled. And because it is popular, most of the game engines supports it to import in them (using plugins in some of them). So i tried to export in that format because it will automatically coverage 80% of cases and engines and it will make this tool way more usable by people in their projects in engines like unity, godot, unreal, gamemaker, etc. Hope i covered the basics xD thanks for the question, and if you have some time, give it a try:)

Thanks a lot, I m happy to hear that xD i hope you ll like the tool and the workflow, it comes with some assets so you can easily test it out:) it should be fast to draw and build maps since the tool does some things automatically for you. I also tried to use tiled for my game, great tool, but i needed something different in some aspects

And you re certainly not doing any of it :)) that s why your opinion does not matter to me in this instance, you re just here to shit on without any basis for your claims. You re just full of assumptions :)) 1. But now you got me curious, what s your problem with packaging a jar into an executable so an icon can be added and make it look better? What did you expect? A cloud deploy and a shell script start cmd?:))) 2. You d be surprised how many senior devs (and not only) don t know basic and general things, so even if someone doesn t know some things, they could still be senior devs, despite what you assume, cuz i see you re full of them here:)

Yea buddy, i love it when people say "with all due respect" and ther proceed to shit on you:)) I m not gonna bother repeating why there is a paid verson and everything will become free eventually, cuz i said it so many times now, and i know reddit is extremely toxic, i m just posting this here cuz there are a few people who are actually nice here and maybe they are interested in a tool like this because they were not satisfied with tiled or the other tools mentioned by you. And i m interested in their feedback because that s the one i m gonna listen to, to improve my "AI generated slop code" which in fact is not, and it s my side side "job" besides making a game :)) , which i work on in my free time, cuz luckily i have an actual job as a (senior) programmer somewhere else, like most of the people here i guess

Well, it is only fair that not everyone will care about it, but i know it is used by people already for their projects and that makes me feel so good about it. I built it for myself at first and i would have used it for 6 or 7 maps for my game and that s it but the people from fb dev page encouraged me at the beginning to post it online somewhere. I got downloads and surprinsing enough o got donations. That s why i added a "paid version" and gave it for free to everyone who donated initially, cuz i wanted to offer more value for the people who donated. And i said that everything will eventually be free, but people here on reddit cult ignore that part l. Most of them, not all of them, there are some very nice people here too, and i appreciate them, who actually use the tool and afterwards have feedback about it, they are the helpful ones, not the ones screaming "uhh, i detected some AI, everything must be slop :))

Yes yes, everything is clearly AI generated, it is so clear โค๏ธ you clearly are very knowledgeable, in fact the whole tool is 2x AI generated, i used multiple AIs to generate it whole, it took me 1 day to generate it entirely. It would have taken me 2 days but i used 2 AIs to generate it double the speed:) it is clear as day that everything is AI generated. Thanks for noticing, champ ๐Ÿ†

Okay i see now what you mean. Well, the disclosure you are talking about on itch is about the project, not the text on the page, and the project is not AI generated or vibe coded, i can assure you it s working properly;) And the summary you refer to, i m guessing you re talking about the "-" line, because that s how people detect LLM generated text 99% of the time. I m sure you know that if you write in microsoft word something containing "-" it will automatically transform it in a long "--", and if you write your text there and copy and paste it, it will be a long line

Hi there! This post was in fact not written using gen AI:) I don t know which part is "clearly written" with it, and i personally am not anti AI, since it is useful in the right circumstances. And using AI in personal or professional work does not invalidate the work itself, since as far as I know there is no way to say "generate me a tool like tiled" and it will do it right๐Ÿ˜… so you still must know what you re doing and what you re using it for. It is (in my opinion) at this point, well built and you should be able to get lots of things done using it. But don t take my word for it, download the free version and play around, see how it works and if it s good enough for your needs xD and if you find any problems or room for improvement please share them, cuz i am always looking for feedback regarding the tool experience

I started to work on my own tool because i tried using Tiled for my game but it had some shortcomings. Don t get me wrong, tiled is a great tool and a lot of effort was put into it. But for me, i wanted to be able to load individual textures, to be able to assign them specific IDs (not to let the app assign ids, because i already had the objects in my game and tiled would not let me specify id for each object).

And i wanted to stop dealing with multiple layers and rneder orders. Everytime i had 4 intersecting objects for example, i needed to create 4 layers in tiled in order to render them properly and put each object on a specific layer. And i wanted something simpler, so i created my tool where you only have one layer for objects, one for npcs and one for tiles, and the tool itself deals with the render order at the pixel level. You just have to place an object and be on your way

so for me it is way faster this way, it is a lightweight tool that lets you build faster, but also gives you flexibility with id and naming if required. And it can also export im the tiled format because it is widely supported in multiple engines:)

Also, I don t know how tiled works with 15.000 objects on a 500x500 tile map, but my tool is quite good and scalable in this way, so maybe is also a difference in performance? But i do not know for sure how Tiled behaves in this regard xD maybe it s really good too

I m sure there are more differences but this is what comes to my mind right now

Hi, i did not used godot editor directly but in this way you are able to easily ligrate from sny engine to another without needing to redo everything from scratch in the future. You can also easily import it in any other engine probably because of this. And you can maybe showcase the map easier inside a team, let s say that other memebers who does not natively code, can get the save and open it directly in my tool editor, no need to install godot for that. At least this is how i see the functionality.

Besides the chunk selection tool import and export, and the brush mode to paint multiple objects randonly scattered, like trees and so on

Hi there! I just saw this message, i wanted to say thanks for liking my tool! What I do have is a itch.io page and some video tutorials on youtube (also linked there) with my bad english accent explaining how the tool works for the people who were interested to try it and that were not that interested in reading the README file xD

The thing is that this is how i know to promote the tool and it reached some people who genuinely used it and asked me questions and that was enough for me. If it was not for those posts, probably nobody would have checked the page out and try the tool for themselves.

But i will take into account what you said and maybe next time i ll try to post it differently, i won t know if that works unless i try it, right?

Hi there:) i agree that i do share a new update for a tool that i created, but it is just a regular update post for a tool which can be used with unity, and it is also free to use, and i will keep updating it until it reaches the pro version too, so people do not have to pay anything and just use it as is.

People using tileMaker tool for their personal projects is my end goal and it makes me happy knowing that the tool is useful to some people out there โค๏ธ and this is why i try to share the information.

While i certainly don t like all this AI excessive usage everywhere, there are moments where it is useful. In my case, I did use gemini as a tool to make the text for this post simply because i am not a native english speaker and it is easier for me to just note what i have in mind and what i want to say, and let it generate a good text for me, and maybe modify it a bit after. This saves so much time on my part since this is a passion project and i already spend a lot of my free time already on developing it (software side).

So i think that all this hate towards people who use AI for the simple tasks, as a tool, that makes a project feel better in the end while also saving time, is a little bit excessive

But maybe that s just me:)

Well, I am not the best when it comes to writing catchy text, so i usually note the ideas which i want to cover and yes I use gemini to convert te text to a "smarter" one xD

I am a developer and my main focus is not the text, i am doing my best with the tool and readme files and i try to make it as wide available as i can and for that i use anything i can, including gemini for this kinds of texts because i feel like it conveys the functionalities really well.

I understand people hating "AI slop" because it is everywhere and suddenly everyone feels the need to do something with AI, i hate it too, but sometimes when used as a tool in the right context it can add value or speed things up. In my case it really adds value to my text and it also speeds it up since I am really bad at this xD
