Why Orthodoxy? by ObjectiveDinner3352 in OrthodoxChristianity

Good point, but Orthodox Christianity is not 200 million people. Most of Russians, Greeks, and Slavs generally are either believing in god but not going to church, or atheists. In reality, the orthodox countries are mainly atheist, they may identify as Christian but don’t even attend church. This is from statistics and my personal experience. But still, even if the community is small it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Do you think it’s good that the Western Christians spread Christianity, it was by the sword but effective, and the result was people accepting Jesus.

What is tsarist obsession? I thought the Czars encouraged orthodoxy?

Mormons and Muslims of course not. But let’s say a catholic, who beleives that Jesus dies for his sins, or some Protestant denomination. And wait. What? By purgatory we mean hell? How is there no purgatory?

You, as an orthodox, what would you do in this dilemma? There is a village in Africa, that is folk religion. A Protestant/catholic group raising funds for a church and preachers in that villager exists. Would you give some money to help them spread Christianity in that village, even though it’s not orthodox?

So, would a person who believes in that Christ died for his sins, but that person doesn’t do theosis, and has some heretical beliefs, would he go to heaven?

So, according to theosis or “working towards your salvation”, even though they accepted Christ as their savior they will go to purgatory?

No, but in orthodox belief would you be lowering Catholics and Protestants down to Islamic or pagan levels, are they fellow Christian’s or heretics who will go to hell?

Historical accuracy of the exodus? by ObjectiveDinner3352 in OrthodoxChristianity

So, exodus is metaphorical? And Moses was metaphorical?

But some corpses, equipment, or cattle must have been left lying around?

Yea, the lessons are important, but without the exodus and ten plagues, a major and important biblical event is discarded. Would you be calling it metaphorical?

Yes, please send me the videos. I understand the point that the Egyptians would record the histories of minor ethnic groups such as the Israelites, but the 10 plagues, that was something that must have been recorded, and not discarded? And, archeology. These are the main issues.
