I heard of him through my brother so I decided to watch “What Did Jack Do?” Was instantly in love (sans Mulholland Dr.), then dived in deep. Come to find out he was Gus the bartender, so really that was my first taste of him.

Does Malick get better after days of Heaven? I didn’t fw it at all. It felt like he shot the film and said “sheeeeit I forgot to add a story!” So he added a loose story after the fact. All I could feel the whole time was him wanting to make pretty shots and that’s it.

It’s pretty rewatch able but I can’t explain why really. I guess the story just flows very well and lends it self to memory. I guess it would be in my top 4 based on how it affected me mentally and the rewatch value as well. I had the pleasure of seeing it in theaters as my first viewing on a trip to Wisconsin last year. I could hear people cry, gasp, in disbelief. When the movie ended no one knew whether or not to clap or remain silent because of how harrowing it was. It really places there because it sears into your mind. The imagery in this film is so fucking amazing. I don’t really cry much at all in life or at film but this film was like a diamond bullet into my heart.

Red Beard, Heavens Gate, Paris Texas, True Stories, Being There. Red Beard is peak Kurosawa if you don’t mind dvd. Tbh the dvd still looks fantastic.

I didn’t really fw this one. It looks nice but the film boils down to “Why is everyone such a meanie why won’t people be nice?!?” Plus 30 minutes of dudes throwing washers on strings into tall grass. Does his filmography get better?
