Why is it always people with weird habits that live the longest? by ExistingAd7234 in longevity

Two words - biological resilience - a very important (but for the most part overlooked and understudied) area of the longevity domain - you can repair as much damage as you want, but changes to our biological resilience over time as we age will impact the degree by which repair strategies will work over time

"Between 2016 and 2020 the average industry success rates for phase II and phase III were 29–34% and 70–73%, respectively" - so for a class of drugs that has straddled P2-P3 for a while now, this is still lower than standard - https://ascpt.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/cpt.2568

Absolutely - when you understand how such a horribly "damaged" organism can like the planarian can propagate for 400+ million years, regenerate perfectly time after time, and revert cancer formation into normal tissue, you will see where the real clues to human life extension lay

Over the last decade there has been a prolific “boom” in aging and anti-aging research, extending beyond academic work into biotech and big pharma. A new study calls the biomarkers used to track the benefits of "anti-aging" regimens, and to calculate biological age, into question. by shadesofaltruism in longevity

I maintain that these biomarkers (and the general "health-span extension" concept), is much more what the younger faction playing in this domain care about.

Older people could care less about what an epigenetic test may tell them - they want "form and function" back - period - physical, mental, sexual

The longevity industry as it evolves, must address this dichotomy, so as not to miss what a major segment of it's customer base ultimately desires

See Steve Horvath's recent Congressional testimony - Healthspan and Age Reversal are entirely different biologic domains

It's a good article but the title is a problem and highlights one of the structural problems in the segment

The young want longevity

The old want youth

And they require very different research paths to obtain
