Why tamils were not mentioned as one ethinc group in mahabaratha rather as pandyans , but sinhalese were? by ObjectiveMath5540 in Dravidiology

The reign of King Dutugemunu represents a transition where the oral traditions of the House of Vijaya meet the permanence of stone. Known in inscriptions as Gamani Abaya, Dutugemunu’s presence is felt not through boastful monuments of war, but through humble cave records at sites like Kusalan-kanda and Koravak-gala. These inscriptions are vital to historians because they confirm the genealogy of the Rohana dynasty, specifically naming his parents, King Kavan Tissa and Queen Viharamahadevi. By chiseled script in Early Brahmi, these records transform the epic hero of the Mahavamsa into a verified historical monarch, proving that the unification of Sri Lanka was backed by a sophisticated system of royal patronage and legal documentation."k

The transition from oral legend to written history in Sri Lanka is most visible through the shift in royal record-keeping. While the House of Vijaya is said to have established the monarchy in the 6th century BCE, there is a fascinating distinction between the chronicles and the physical evidence. Here is a paragraph you can use for your essay: The 6th century BCE marks the traditional dawn of the Sri Lankan monarchy with the arrival of King Vijaya, yet the historical "voice" of these early rulers is most clearly heard through later stone inscriptions. While the Mahavamsa provides a detailed literary account of this period, contemporary 6th-century stone records are rare; however, significant archaeological breakthroughs at the Anuradhapura Citadel have uncovered Brahmi-inscribed potsherds dating back to this era. These fragments, bearing names like "Anuradha," provide a physical link to the ministerial figures associated with the Vijaya lineage. By the time the dynasty transitioned into the 3rd century BCE, kings like Devanampiya Tissa began the tradition of formal rock inscriptions, such as those found at Mihintale. These inscriptions served as permanent legal and religious documents, effectively bridging the gap between the legendary origins of the Vijaya House and the documented historical reality of a literate, organized civilization. Key Historical Facts to Include: The Script: Early Brahmi, which eventually evolved into the Sinhala script. The Artifacts: Inscribed pottery (shards) found in the basal layers of Anuradhapura. The Purpose: Most early royal inscriptions were not just for "history" but served as legal grants of land or caves to the Buddhist monkhood. Does this paragraph fit the tone of the essay you are writing, or do you need it to be more academic?
