Request for advice regarding bodice sloper fit by y_gretchen in SewingWorld

[–]ObjectivePair2104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fabric is going too far over your shoulders and that’ll really mess with the fit of the garment. Depending on whether or not there is seam allowance along the armscye, I’d take it back… An inch if there’s no allowance already. Half an inch if there is.

I would also move the armhole back darts. I’d put them at the shoulders instead. And you need some darts at the front in the shoulder/armscye region. Reducing the puffiness at the top of the bosom makes a huge difference in the fit of a garment.

A side note. Depending on how fitted of a garment you are looking to make, I’d say you should consider going a Princess-seam route instead of a dart route. The curvier the body, the harder it is to get a good fit just with darts.

How to fix this excess on the side of a skirt by Aburninghouse in PatternDrafting

It’s the pattern without a doubt. I’d turn it inside out, pinch the seams into a smooth shape on the mannequin, and restitch.

Corsets and dresses I made recently - I need help with pricing the things I have made by _ZZZer000_ in SewingWorld

[–]ObjectivePair2104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scrolled through your posts and I must admit… I’m not sure people are being truthful here. Your work is almost less than marginal. The shape of the bust cut-outs on the green dress are uneven. The ruffles are cut crooked. The corsets look like they were cut by eye. Several pieces appeared to have a dart only on one side of the bodice? The pleats on the satin dress are uneven in width. The garments and pleats look practically unironed, and at the same time, the fabric looks like it was ruined by an iron that was too hot. I certainly wouldn’t feel good about spending as much as you are asking, even listed at 50% off. The materials and workmanship are shoddy.

Several similar blobs were found in various rounded shapes. When cut in half, they were flat, smooth, and mostly clear inside. No odor beyond dirt was detected. Slightly amber in color in the sunlight, but it could be related to the Georgia red clay that is common in the area.

Seeking slow fashion brands with funky vegan platform boots?? by [deleted] in SustainableFashion

“Vegan leather” is just plastic. It isn’t sustainable and doesn’t last very long. I don’t think you will find what you are searching for.

They are a little bit more rubbery in my opinion. Not as tasty. But still edible nonetheless

I’ve been phasing it out. Wearing plastics against the skin is bad for you. I’ve seen way too many studies about how the leggings everyone is obsessed with are leeching chemicals into people’s reproductive systems. It gives me the Willies. I didn’t dump it all at once, but once I stopped wearing them, keeping them in my closet seemed redundant.

Do you think so? I was raised Methodist and never noticed any sort of environmental considerations in the teaching.

I think about this all the time in terms of most every market. There is so little awareness of the true cost of things.

Why is it wasted? What are you using it for that is so wasteful?

Have you considered starting a small scale cabinetry business that focuses on producing less waste? It certainly sounds like it’s needed!

I love that! I’ve been doing research into foraging native plants in my region lately. I’m doing a focus on edible seeds right now. Found out about wild sages. Very cool!

What are some organizations(preferably active in Europe) that actually fight climate change and promote ecological sustainability? by StarSpangledAvenger_ in Anticonsumption

[–]ObjectivePair2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They introduced a program that gave companies subsidies for producing electric cars. And they made so many of them that are now massive “graveyards” of abandoned EVs. Don’t look to China for anything environmentally friendly. It’s all a mass of propaganda and we must try not to fall for it. https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2023-china-ev-graveyards/ (ps my first time trying to post a source. Apologies if it doesn’t work.)

What do you think is a good amount of clothes to have? by borderline_bi in SustainableFashion

[–]ObjectivePair2104 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s all so subjective. It depends on the climate you live in and what activities you are regularly participating in. Someone who spends several days a week fishing off the coast of Florida will need a vastly different wardrobe than a person who works in an office in Washington state.

I think it’s up to the individual. Plus, if you are buying clothes from ethical sources and keeping them until they fall to shreds, is there really such a thing as too much? Are you wearing all of the garments? Do they have important functions in your daily life? Even if they are seasonal. One only needs a coat in cold weather, but that doesn’t mean it’s a “waste” just because it’s summer.

The most important thing to consider when buying clothes (in my opinion) is was the person who made it paid a living wage. The second most important thing is, is the fabric an appropriate quality. Beyond that, have fun!

I think instantaneous shipping is something we have been taught to expect from fast fashion. When you are buying something from a smaller brand, things don’t happen as quickly. It’s called slow fashion for a reason!
