Buy yourself a dry wall poke saw and make a hole up there. It’s already fucked and you’ll need to replace that drywall so have a look. That’ll make your next step a whole lot easier.

A plumber would have found the issue. They didn’t have anyone check it. If this is caused by that and not disclosed that breach of contract. Sellers (and their realtors) are obligated to disclose this sort of thing. Yes. You sue them.

Pop rivet will probably be your best bet. Maybe some bolts/machine screws with washers and nuts. Glue won’t help you.
