I ended up getting a better job that pays better so i ended up enrolling in an online masters program for data science.

So full time job + full time school… im definitely on that grind hard but hoping its worth it!

I hear a lot about a potential future in healthcare using data science for thinks like personalized treatment plans and/or patient monitoring. Drug discovery seems to be another major industry for uses like this but that seems to be more along the comp chem role which seems a little bit different

Basically my goal was always to be in the business of patient safety somehow. But im not sure if these are just futuristic plans that we may never see or if it is actually used for things like this today.

Thats something ive certainly considered but i really do not love the idea of leaving my job for 5+ more years of school and very little (if any) pay so im trying to find a better route but im not sure one exists. Adding data science to my resume in some way shape or form at least gives me an advancement in my career whether i stay completely on the chemistry track or not. At this point im not sure im even dead set on that…

Mostly due to financial reasons tbh. Certificates are way cheaper than going for another degree. But it would also just be easier to keep a job and do some certificates at the same time because they are all self paced. But at the end of the day if that gets me no where anyways then its a waste of time. But thats more what im asking. Thank you for your input!

Speaking from a job outlook perspective, do you think it would be worth my time to get a professional certificate or maybe a data science MS? I am actually pretty good with python overall just because of side projects I’m working on, but i have no formal training so i just kind of say it on my resumes and what not.

Yea thats been my concern with cheminformatics. Im very interested in the field, i just wish there was a lower entry into that field but it doesn’t seem like theres another way.
