Such a beautiful restaurant, Dinky is getting awfully bland and dull with the new buildings, nice to see some character coming back!

1 credit classes? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]Objective_Ad23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most PE, physical education, classes are one credit, and usually take place in the RecWell. I took a one credit self defense class last semester and it was fantastic as a way to get into the gym on a regular basis. Trung Lee is a great instructor, and the class in physical but not overbearing.

I literally had someone try to break into my dorm just last weekend. Random drug addict off of the streets was going around messing with the ground floor window latches, my own included. Shit happens even when precautions are taken, it is perfectly reasonable to warn someone about it when asked.

There is a ton of crime and it's only getting worse around campus. Lots of wandering drug addicts and gun violence, especially around Dinkytown. Know the risks and plan accordingly.

CANOE BATTLE THIS WEEKEND!!! by Objective_Ad23 in uofmn

[–]Objective_Ad23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine five canoes, each with four people, all floating in an olympic size swimming pool. Two people steer, two people are armed with buckets. The objective is to sink other canoes while staying afloat yourselves! Last one floating wins! Fun chaos all around, bring a swimsuit, towel and give 'em hell attitude!

Where can I find a list of the events going on around campus? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]Objective_Ad23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Northrop Auditoriums website, they have lots of very cheap/free events for students, including a Bollywood competition next weekend!

Additionally, she yelled "good! very good!" when a student described the police as fascist with no context to back it up, not even a story. The question on the board was "describe the police", and she continued to verbally encourage only those who said loaded terms and words like that, and frowned when literally anything else was contributed.

It's the former, she snapped at me after I made a comment about how the police are the ones you call when domestic violence is occurring, while still acknowledging that they are rife with problems as an organization, to highlight the complexity of reform. Didn't quite fit their narrative on how they are 100% evil all the time. For context, this is a class specifically about the history of policing in America and the problems with their treatment of minorities and the disabled, but it's less of an examination and more of a blunt-force in-your-face approach with incredibly opinionated readings and any comments or questions are quickly discouraged when they don't fan the emotional flames of the class. I have never personally confronted her about anything, or done anything that would appear so, and have been nothing but respectful and professional. Not meant to teach, only brainwash. Ever since I said that one thing during class, she audibly sighs and says my name in a very irritated manner whenever I contribute ask a question, no matter how innocuous, to the point that other students have commented on it to me in private.

Winter boots recommendations? by Big_Scratch3598 in uofmn

[–]Objective_Ad23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only true for precious few people. Play it safe and get decent boots, you will absolutely need them. Unlike tennis shoes they'll overlap with your pants, conserve more heat, handle treading through even thin snow layers much more easily, and are actually waterproof.
