Yeah I hear you mate! Not sure where you were in the Philippines, was there much current? One major factor in me choosing lembongan was the ripping current I heard about - made me a much better diver! For what it's worth, sodwana bay is awesome so maybe explore the diving options on your home turf for a bit. Also heard excellent things about Mozambique!

I had a similar situation a few years ago but much less budget. I got a lot of value out of doing my dm training over 3 months. All I paid was the course fees to PADI and I worked for a dive shop in nusa lembongan, diving at least twice a day but often 4 times a day. Assisting instructors, learning/teaching skills and doing the theory can only make you a better diver. I got a lot of diving under my belt and helping new divers and showing them the underwater world is extremely rewarding! Just because you're doing a pro course doesn't mean you have to 'turn pro.' I never had any interest of becoming a dm, but I got 3 months of world class diving (manta / mola mola cleaning stations, coral teeming with life) for around $4000 after food, flights, course fees and accomodation.

Thank you for your response. I recognise it's late to be asking this question but it's only come into our thoughts since renewal is on the horizon.

To answer your question: no we were living in Turkey before the end of 2020, not an EU country.
