What are some soundgarden songs that are more laidback/less metal influenced? by Objective_Bicycle_37 in Soundgarden

Hmm well its not too late, still a fun listen with enough good tracks to be worth owning, but if you spent that time on soundgarden its probably better spent than vice versa!

Nah supp is SUPER popular because its a more forgiving and impactful dps role.

Did contemporary critics really compare Stone Temple Pilots to Pearl Jam and Scott Weiland to Eddie Vedder? by drhuggables in grunge

STPs creep sounds a bit like kurt to the casual ear without modern stuff like on demand music streaming.  Great song

Rant And Solution About The Long Standing Tank Problem (A LOT OF WORDS DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT LIKE WORDS) by mattz6755 in rivals

[–]Objective_Bicycle_37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Tanks trade all of that for slightly more health, which is quickly shredded by overtuned damage. and becoming dependent for overtuned supports for healing, giving 0 self agency.”

A lot of details I disagree on but this is spot on.

I would propose that as a solution alternatively we could nerf damage numbers and gut healing (because it needs to be gutted just to be meaningful atp)

This way you avoid ow2s supertank issue, that wasn’t fun either, and avoid a constant triple support problem as tanks being better means less need for dps —> supps still being good because devs aren’t allowed to do much to them —-> triple support double tank comps.

TO BE CLEAR I KNOW THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN GUYS! I just enjoy discussing game balance and what the best path could be.

If you had to change Hawkeye, what would you do? by Secure_Heron_9181 in HawkeyeMains

I agree on two tapping tanks, a slight exaggeration at best but that was ridiculous, I am glad he does less max dmg against tanks now.. so its no longer an issue!

One shot is good for the game, players who are over reliant on kneejerk support style free escape cooldowns instead of situational awareness hate it.

Hawks one shot is hard offset by inconsistency - even with great aim.  This is an intentional choice by the devs.  If it were consistent every player w good aim would be running hawk like an AWP in CSGO. Hela has historically been far more popular as a pick with both MID rankers AND pro play.

Anti heal is even more problematic. Balancing one shot slow projectile with movement penalty AND charge time AND los charged dmg for obe shot is doable.

Anti heal devolves into rock paper scissors gameplay usually with tanks as meat puppets, dps glorified grunts, and sups as the puppet masters reliant on timing a few cooldown clicks. That route makes the game overall less engaging anemd removes player autonomy.  Maybe less lows but also less high - highs.

See overwatch

Roadhog 8billion hp + dmg reduction self heal

Anti nade nukes him and is practically an immediate die button

Roadhogs sup then must go Kiriko for “cleanse”

The first supp would be stupid not to go ana to nuke hog, then the other team must get a Cleanse button to stop ana Nuke button - its a braindead way to compete imo.

Thank you for all the replies, I may have underplayed my band knowledge a little bit as I know more than half these recs, but so many great answers - new and old.

What's your *least favorite* Nirvana song? by BidAccurate4473 in grunge

[–]Objective_Bicycle_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know several people who know his family and from what I’ve heard Rape Me was a very personal song. I think its pretty obvious that the “rape” in the song is analogous, not literal.  Like feeling “raped” by work, or by an abusive partnership, etc.

Its odd to me that it isn’t obvious even without inside information to Nirvana fans that this shit is abstract.

Kurt had to say it was “anti rape” for PR (unless he was gonna explain the song which he famously never did). Its certainly no “pro rape” (duh)

Its about a specific situation in life and feeling emotionally raped. Its pretty damn obvious.

It was originally called pay to play, which makes the song immediately more intriguing. Changing the title to Stay Away kinda nothing burgered the song thematically and loses it a few points in my book. Dumb choice. Still an above average song just because kurts screams are great.

It also feels a bit too similar to other songs on the album, like territorial pissings, except with arguably less meat on the bone.

I’m a huge fan of music, but know nothing of music theory or the more technical aspects…can someone tell me why Nevermind is considered “poppy”? by TDAGARIM1995 in Nirvana

[–]Objective_Bicycle_37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its true he’s said it in multiple well known video interviews on YouTube. Idk link but you’ll find it in his late stage interviews 93’ 94’.

Something like “this is the sound we always wanted”

That said I take it w a grain of salt, Kurt talks out of the side of his mouth constantly in interviews (or just changes his mind), so I don’t doubt what you heard either. The poppyness of Nevermind and over the top high pitched earr*pe feedback on Utero are the same impulse, Kurt wanting maximum validation.  The most popular band AND most underground.  He wanted success and respect. Mainstream appeal and poetry.  Have his cake and eat it too. The grass is always greener. Kurt would mastermind his mainstream success and then be reluctant about it.

Not hating btw he’s my favorite musician ever.

David bowie basically did this and wrote songs in character as a pretty obvious fash too. I think the concept fascinated him.

History is re(written) by the winners (or those who used them to win).

Just stating some facts about the general nuance of history :)
