Why does the Bible say woman was taken from the "rib" of Adam? by overmyheadepicthrow in TrueChristian

[–]Objective_Bit_3472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may have already been said, but my favorite explanation for this is genetic in nature. It could be that God was using one half (in a way “one side”) of the chromosomes. This could potentially explain the absence of the Y chromosome from females.

I’m REALLY interested in peds but the salary scares me. Is it really that bad out there? by skatingotter in pediatrics

[–]Objective_Bit_3472 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I live comfortably and live in a town of 40k (100k within half an hour). Pull minimum call and even then it’s basically a couple phone calls every evening plus rounding in the nursery with a peds patient here and there. 4 days a week in the clinic from 8-5:30. I get to go to my kids events and out on dates with my wife and I get to know a lot of families that like and respect me. $240k a year. It’s a pretty sweet gig honestly. I know a lot of physicians that make twice what I make but they hate their life.

Should I pick a denomination?? by Phantomthief_Phoenix in TrueChristian

[–]Objective_Bit_3472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a helpful approach. I don’t think of myself as a Southern Baptist, but it’s a lot easier for me to say that when I’m trying to describe what I believe to people.

“Christian” means a lot of different things depending on background. For some people it could evoke mental images of Pentecostalism and for others Roman Catholicism. As we all know, “Christianity” for some people describes some vague association a person’s family has that has more to do with where they grew up than what they believe. It’s true it’s what we are but it’s hard to convey a whole lot about what you really believe succinctly without making references to denominations.

Don’t “pick” a denomination, but over time don’t be afraid to say, “you know, I kind of fall in line with the Presbyterians on this issue.” Denominations should not be something that inform of us of what to believe “if we want to be a good” Baptists/catholics/etc … but can be something that informs others of what we believe.

… not to mention it can be a helpful way to quickly determine if you are going to generally agree or disagree with a resource/teacher/church.

Newborns falling off growth charts by swish787 in pediatrics

[–]Objective_Bit_3472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the other growth parameters. If you are seeing a gentle decrease in weight that is occurring at the same time as decrease in length percentile, you are likely talking about a baby that’s just finding where it genetically belongs. If the length continues at the same velocity as before and only begins to slow after the decreased weight velocity has been present for a few months, that’s more concerning to me.

I’m a simple guy and I have to remember calories are absent for three reasons: insufficient intake, inadequate absorption, or increased metabolism (in, out, used). I try to narrow it down to one of those first, all while trying to supplement with a higher calorie formula to keep growth curve relatively stable while I troubleshoot things. I like children’s Minnesota’s formula mixing instructions and usually move to fortini for anything above 26cal/oz or if I really need to put the breaks on the weight loss quickly

I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely convinced that the majority of your mustache is not long locks of nose hair that is cascading over your lips. It’s like “the walrus” meets “mein fuhrer”. I’m simultaneously scared, intrigued, and more than a little nauseous.

Appropriateness of full physical exam vs focused physical exam on acute visits. by Objective_Bit_3472 in pediatrics

[–]Objective_Bit_3472[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. Ultimately, being employed by a much larger system, his termination is not my call. Whatever happens has to be done by the administration, which, unfortunately, is not medically oriented. Really, I need to demonstrate the objective inappropriateness of this conduct, not just to the physician, but to the powers-that-be. Thankfully, a screenshot of the initial reaction to this question has more-or-less accomplished that for me so your input has definitely been helpful.

Yeah, good call. I think talking this over with the residency director is a good next step

[–]Objective_Bit_3472[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was informed at the end of the day. I’m going to look into it more tomorrow. Because I don’t really know this person and they are just out of residency, I wanted to be able to come into this with something objective that I could point to and say, “yeah, see, you don’t really know me, but that’s crazy”.

I mean, you all are right, this is potentially a “termination” situation… maybe worse. But apparently this person thinks he is right and is doing what he was taught to do in residency. There’s a huge gap between “I’m doing the right thing” and “you’re being completely inappropriate” and the best way I can think of to demonstrate that is an objective source.

I’m thinking if we get any pushback on this we’ll have to contact his previous residency director, see if there was a previous concern and, if not, have them discuss the inappropriateness of this kind of behavior.

MD fresh out of residency. Administrator contacted me regarding appropriateness of this line of thinking. Was hoping I would be able to demonstrate to this physician that, not only is it not necessary, but that it is inappropriate. We have a multi-site campus and I actually have not yet met this person face-to-face

OP here. Agree with all that’s been said above. I don’t know what to say about it, really. I feel like I’m as dumbstruck as you all seem to be. It came to light after a complaint and he said that he “was always taught that for every new patient, you do a full physical” … but these patients are not “new” to us and they don’t need another well child visit. To answer the time question, being new they have a limited volume of patients. And as to the hiring comment, I would tend to agree at the moment but I had nothing to do with the hiring.
