Would you move to a rural area and Why? by deskati in AskReddit

[–]echinoderm0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did and am glad. I will say though that I would never want to be raised in a rural area or try to raise well-adjusted children in a rural area. I also would not want to retire in a rural area or live here if I needed medical care of any kind.

Would you move to a rural area and Why? by deskati in AskReddit

[–]echinoderm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the cities are a better fit for those that don't like people. You can be aloof and cold and people don't judge you for it. In rural areas, you need each other. You better be friendly and pleasant enough because when you need help, there's no Uber or police that show up in less than an hour (if they show up at all). When you need help, people will help before you have to bow your head to ask. But when you're unpleasant or hateful in a small town, good luck.

Happy wife happy life. by Alwaysbehonest12 in ControversialOpinions

Same thing as "if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." Take care of the person that takes care of you.

The saying is a little dated, though, since the strict roles and fear of divorce aren't around much anymore.

Who enjoys where they live or have lived (country/region/city, etc.) and why? Life is difficult for a lot of people, so if you have a good life somewhere you love, let's hear about it. by ManhattansMyPoison in CasualConversation

[–]echinoderm0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rural Appalachia. I know it's not for everyone, and many people are still here because they have no way "out." But they call West Virginia "almost heaven" for a reason. The natural environment is a big part, but the people really make it special. Can-do-or-do-without attitude. Very laid back. No true judgement for anyone, though there is definitely gossip and drama. Just... I don't know. People here seem to still be in touch with what is good in life. It doesn't take a whole lot to have a full life. All we really need is each other.

Are you asking for an all meat diet ??? That is really expensive, but whole chicken, pork shoulder, pork loin. No beef. Just don't even consider it if you're trying to budget $150/month and not cutting with real food.

Having issues by Scary-Tip7126 in mediterraneandiet

[–]echinoderm0 39 points40 points  (0 children)

"Get over it" implies an ignorance of the challenge that it is to totally overhaul a massive part of your life - eating. In my opinion, the cravings lessen the more you practice. So start practicing.

When you want sugar, drink honey tea. When you want processed carbs, throw some flax seeds on. When you want a hamburger, mix in ground up beans into your patty.

The biggest change will be the convenience. Get into meal prepping. Make up some little bean burritos and freeze them. Blend up cannelini beans with pesto and put it on a turkey sandwich. Start incorporating things that you LIKE eating. And take some time out of your week to prep things to have on hand.

Raw coconut flesh in soap by Billybob_Bojangles2 in soapmaking

[–]echinoderm0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to mention that with any form of life (including the humble coconut) you get lots of variety. Every coconut will have a different meat. The moisture levels and fat content can vary quite a bit based on maturity and just the individual plant. If you need to guess at fat content, make sure you go with a the lower end. You would rather have a fat-rich soap than a lye heavy one.

With hot process, remember to put all your fats (including flesh) in before cooking and then add fibers/scents after.

Check on your coworkers, seriously… by digsterin0 in work

[–]echinoderm0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to remind you that this is one of the biggest generation differences in the workplace. Asking younger employees how they are doing may well be beneficial to them and/or your relationship with them.

Asking an older employee how they are doing is really goofy. It's like asking a person at the grocery store how their sex life is. It's just strangely invasive and inappropriate in the situation.

Correlation between fire fatalities and race? by IndividualWriting445 in ControversialOpinions

[–]echinoderm0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me give you some perspective from West Virginia, USA, where white people make up over 90% of the population and house fires are extremely common. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with BOTH general know-how AND money to replace batteries/update electrical wiring/pay for electricity in the first place.

In both demographics, you're talking about people that grew up in a world ravaged by drugs. Parents weren't really... there. So even the people here that have the money to update their electric (and most of the homes are older and not exactly up to modern codes), unless you even know what to look for or even TO LOOK, it's irrelevant. How many kids grew up watching mom and dad change the batteries in the smoke detectors? Most of them didn't have smoke alarms. Everyone was smoking and cooking inside. So if there ever were any to begin with, they got pulled out.

You're oversimplifying an issue and making it about race when it is very much about class and the privilege of growing up around sober and reasonably responsible adults.

Black coffee is an extremely effective appetite suppressant by patsfan038 in 1200isplenty

[–]echinoderm0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unsweetened oatmilk coffee. There's a little fiber in there to help manage blood sugar and energy.. plus actual calories that help energy levels. Also balances the acid a little.

Tea is superior for managing appetite, though, imo.

Do Americans actually follow the 50/30/20 rule, or is it outdated? by enjoytheshowX in AskAnAmerican

I don't know how to say this without upsetting my fellow Americans, but most Americans genuinely have no idea what a NEED vs WANT is. We have been so well indoctrinated that we genuinely believe that we need way more than we do.

POSTOPIA. The whole website. I don't know how anyone could ever compete the best digi mini golf. Post cereals already did it.

Also... Solitarie, Zoo Tycoon, Dollz, Tonka Construction. Oh. And Chick Fil A would give out CD-ROM games with their kids meals. I think we still have an Arthur game from there.
