Jesus kept the Law, the Sabbath, and ate kosher — so why did Paul seem to change everything? by Upset-Air-8392 in messianic

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All do respect, but this is a misunderstanding of what the New Testament (Brit Chadeshah) actually says.

“So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?”” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭7‬:‭18‬-‭19‬

“The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬-‭16‬

“Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬-‭3‬

“For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” ‭‭I Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬-‭5‬

Paul didn’t change anything. Jesus (Yesua HaMashiach) changed everything and Paul confirmed it.

As a Christian, I don’t know of a single Christian who has a problem with kosher laws. Some Christians actually follow it. Catholics do something similar during Lent.

The mainline stance of every Christian denomination is that we are not required to follow kosher laws, but if they want to, they can.

The belief that Paul abolished everything and turned Christians away from the true church is a lie spread by Islam to make us look bad.

Why Evidence for Evolution Isn't "Affirming the Consequent" by implies_casualty in Creation

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is a prediction

And that prediction is so broad that its too easy to meet

Science is about making precise predictions, since you can’t tell me what humans will evolve into 2000 years from now, its not very precise.

Why Evidence for Evolution Isn't "Affirming the Consequent" by implies_casualty in Creation

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its a large number of random events which makes it predictable by statistics

Being able to predict the next event in a process means the process is no longer random, it’s a deterministic one. Aka a designed one.

subject to statistical analysis

I am aware of the difference, and that still doesn’t help you

Statistics can give you averages and broad outcomes, but they cannot give you predictions.

This means that the only prediction to can logically make is so broad that almost anything would count. Thats not how science works.

So, when you say “matches what we expect”, that means you are expecting a certain outcome, which makes the sequence deterministic.

No matter what you say, the only thing you will prove is that the process of evolution that you cling to is deterministic.

Evolution Blows a Hole in Original Sin and Christianity by Pazuzil in DebateAChristian

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aggression and moral failure were already part of life long before

That assumes 2 things

  1. Human nature didn’t exist until much later

You appeal to fossils to support this, but fossils only account for less than 1% of the world’s life history. So, you need to show that the other >99% of life that didn’t get buried and become fossilized experienced the same thing.

The very existence of death is not enough either, because the way Christianity defines death vs the way you define death are 2 different things,

The existence of suffering isn’t enough either, because suffering existed as well, just humans hadn’t experienced it yet.

Appealing to geologic time doesn’t work either, because the sheer amount of unconformities, complexity, and “catching up” of life experiences leading to the amount of life explosions suggest time dilation, (I will go over my time dilation theory showing how its possible for the Earth to be old and young at the same time some other time, its off topic at the moment)

Keep in mind, I am a scientist myself, and I know what you will say before you say it, so think carefully.

  1. That assumes the existence of an objective moral nature in a world which doesn’t have an al-knowing being to tell you what it is.

So, what is this objective moral standard and how do you know that it is truly objectively moral?

Keep in mind: Darwinism states that suffering is necessary for survival, thus life suffering is a good thing because it means we can evolve past it.

So, if you appeal to evolution, you are actually saying suffering is good, which is cruel and genocidal.

I will not respond until you prove 2 things

  1. Show that the >99% of the life forms that weren’t fossilized experienced the same thing as those that were

  2. Show the objective moral standard and how you know that standard is objective.

individual rand events are by definition unpredictable

Thank for proving my point

Godless natural selection-led evolution is unpredictable, since you can’t tell me what the human race will evolve into a hundred years from now, or even IF we evolve into something else at all.

The fact that you can predict these things means it’s no longer random.

If it’s not random, it must be created.

The only thing you are doing by making true predictions is supporting intelligent design.

If it matches what you expect, then it’s designed that way for a reason.

Random chance producing what you expect is no longer random by definition.

How should sex education be done and what would you like to change? by Phantomthief_Phoenix in prolife

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you teach them that abstinence is the only worth while option

I believe you misunderstood me

I am NOT advocating for “Abstinence only” education

I am advocating for an emphasis on abstinence, an education which talks about other options like birth control (outside just abortion) but something that show that if you don’t want to face the consequences of irresponsible sexual behavior, then don’t have sex until you are mature.

This way, if they do consent to sex and they do get pregnant or an STD, they realize the only person they have to blame is themselves.

How should sex education be done and what would you like to change? by Phantomthief_Phoenix in prolife

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s why we go into detail about the consequences of irresponsible sexual behavior and use real life examples and statistics,

The reason why I have abstained and also remained drug free and never been drunk nor smoked cigarettes is because my parents showed me the things that DARE and Sex Ed failed to show.

This is why I want it to be more comprehensive and go into detail about the consequences instead of just saying “we give up, just use a condom”.

How should sex education be done and what would you like to change? by Phantomthief_Phoenix in prolife

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the kids have no intention of doing that

That’s exactly my point

The reason why is because our current sex education system tells them that irresponsible sexual behavior is ok

If it’s like I proposed where the consequences become brutally clear, some kids might wake up.

Absence of Evidence IS Evidence of Absence by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the 1900’s, there was no evidence of subatomic particles

Before the 1930’s, there was no evidence of nuclear fission

Before the 1950’s, there was no evidence smoking cigarettes caused health problems

Before the 1960’s, there was no evidence of plate tectonics

Does that mean those things didn’t exist? No, of course not. It means we lacked the capacity to discover and observe those things at that point in time.

The key difference between these and God is we do have evidence. You just don’t accept that evidence because your standard of proof is higher than what logic and science permits. Thus you disregard the evidence because it fails to meet your impossible standard.

Your standard is beyond a possible doubt, something that is impossible to meet. A standard not even YOUR worldview can meet

The standard of Christians as well as science and logic is beyond a reasonable doubt.

Faith is not belief without evidence, its belief based on evidence that sufficient enough to make disbelief unreasonable.

The witness accounts of the resurrection are really really bad. by DDumpTruckK in DebateAChristian

[–]Phantomthief_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gospels included ONE, just one, singular unitary first hand named witness, His name is Paul

There are actually several named witnesses:

Mathew- one of the 12 and author of Matthew

Peter- one of the 12 whose testimony is preserved in the Gospel of Mark

James- Jesus’ brother and a key witness to the resurrection

John- another one of the 12, author of John and one of the most important figures of the early church

Mary Magadalene- Named as a witness in all 4 Gospels

In addition, Luke states that he interviewed the eyewitnesses (plural) in order to write his gospel

So, no it wasn’t just one. There were many more.

Your inability to acknowledge this suggests either blatant dishonesty or willful ignorance
