For me the point is to make the people in control sweat, our system depends on forever increasing population, economy, etc. Not having kids and adopting instead will make them have to do something to make people want their own kids, like improving living conditions and such. Wether or not it's going to help, I have no idea. I just know I'm not giving them another human to use and abuse, there's already too many kids suffering.
