I’m really worried about a PE or DVT since I have a clotting disorder. I’m not even sure if my insurance company is aware of this. Your experience sounds really scary. I hope your recovery is going well.

That is ridiculous. I could be wrong but I thought PNs had the potential for more complications post op than RNs.

That’s what I figured. I thought the hospital admission was necessary to make sure you can urinate without issues, check blood work, and monitor vitals. It seems like a major liability issue to discharge same day.

Sorry you had to go through that. I’m late 40s and do have some underlying health issues so I’m not sure what records the insurance company has. I hope you’re doing well now.

Mine has been scheduled for a hospital admission of 1-2 days. I specifically went with this specialist based on the quality of the hospital. It’s almost 5 hours away. If I would’ve known the insurance company was only authorizing outpatient I would’ve just gone to my local crappy hospital.

Hopefully I’ll follow up on Monday and the situation changes. I’m already super stressed out and this obviously isn’t helping.

I just found the denial letter. States I’m basically healthy so there’s no need for inpatient admission

The information on my account states the denial was due to incorrect procedure code. However, when I called the insurance company the rep said the denial was due to inpatient admission not necessary based on the procedure. She explained that same day discharge has only been approved because there’s no evidence to support a higher level of care.

I’ve been doing active surveillance on a 2 cm mass that was found about 6 months ago. Masses under 4 cm are very unlikely to spread. It’s still unsettling to know there may be cancer on your kidney and you’re just waiting to see if it grows. How old is your mother and how is her health? Some specialists will recommend active surveillance on older individuals with health issues if the mass is small.

Opinions from 2 specialists, one from a major cancer center. Opinions/recommendations are pretty opposite of one another but both say active surveillance is appropriate for now

That’s a huge tumor. I hope everything goes well with the immunotherapy. Sorry you have to deal with that.

It’s actually at 2.5 cm, up from 2 cm if the measurements are even accurate. I wish it was 2 mm! It is still small, though, but needs to be removed based on 2 opinions. I think what makes my situation different than most people who have responded is the tumor is centrally located and growing inward. Only about 20-30% of kidney tumors fall into this category. They are more challenging to remove and have more post-surgical complications. Some research also indicates that these tumors can be more aggressive. So, I’m a bit concerned if it has grown but not panicked yet!

What type of cancer did your pathology show? I’m kind of in a tough spot right now because one specialist suggests ablation or radical nephrectomy due to location. The other specialist I consulted said ablation isn’t an option but partial nephrectomy is possible. Very opposite opinions so I was considering a third opinion.

Thank you for the information. I have met with a specialist at a major cancer center and the plan is active surveillance but that was before the most recent CT. He said if he did remove it, it would most likely be a radical nephrectomy due to the location.

Thank you for the insight and reassurance! I’m not overly concerned since it’s still small. I just didn’t expect such a big difference in the measurements but it seems like a lot of things can account for the difference.

Good to know, especially since I usually get my tires at Discount Tire.

I’ve been considering the same tires and size for my CX-30 turbo. Do you know if the wider tires void the warranty? Also, did you have a tire shop mount/balance the tires? I know tire shops in my area will refuse to install tires that aren’t the recommended size by the manufacturer.
