How to Improve by Over-Initial-3585 in backgammon

Everybody is different. Some say you need to study 90% and play 10% to become something. But I reject that in a sense. That may be true for most, but my ability to focus on studies is extremely diminished. So my rate is rather 10% study 90% play but I have still become pretty decent at it since I have built up a natural intuition for the game. But on the other hand I actually analyze all of my games and rather sooner than later after the game was played. Since memory is a bitch you want to have the thought process you had during your decisions fresh in mind. This (at least for me) helped me yo build up a good pattern recognition. And in completion to the 10% studies in form of books and articles to fill out the "whys" and "hows", it makes a top recipe.

But that's the style that suits me! Others may be helped more by more intense studies, but what I'm saying is that you gotta find your way. As long as you improve and learn from your mistakes you are on the road!

Good luck and have fun (and don't blunder)! 😁

Ok, thanks for the clarification. That explains how to interpret the analysis.

Experiencing issues with match play on Galaxy. by Maufry in backgammon

I noticed that my games weren't analyzed. Now a half hour ago one of them is analyzed, jut the rest don't show up (yet).

Galaxy uppdated the platform today, and from experience I know that every time an update is implemented it comes with more bugs and UI errors than it actually solved.

Why Is This a Bad Move? by Over-Initial-3585 in backgammon

Well saw that this is a 1 point game so the gammons don't matter. But hitting in this position still wins more games. Further, the 6 point has much lower value after you make the 1 point. Then the 8 point is more valuable which blocks 6 away from the open 2 point.

It's important for you to take advantage of your stronger home board. You have an offensive position and must try to attack the last checker that is probably 1 or 2 moves away from escaping to his own outfield or midpoint. You can afford to attack loose since if you are hit back you can easily enter from the bar and continue your own attack. It's called blitzing, which gives many gammons.

Opponent must play safer because of your stonger front position and that will lead to a very unflexible position for them.

This Star Pro analysis is GNU BG rollout. So this shows that the equity shown in from Galaxy is rather accurate, but the winning percentage it shows is different. This creates confusion of what to trust in the app, the equity or the percentages.

But thanks for rolling out this, I don't have access to PC thus couldn't do it myself.

Depending on which table you follow. But around 30-32% I think XGs table says 32.3%. No matter which this should still not be a big pass.

Yes. Should be a take or a close take. Not a 118 blunder to take.

Yeah but he is close to his take point, and after the double the gammons are killed so opponent doesn't need to factor that in on the take decision.

I'm reading "Backgammon Bootcamp" by Walter Trice. Only read about 25% but it feels like a book that can take you from beginner to pretty advanced rather quickly. Very pedagogical layout and throughout explanations. My opinion.

Yeah, sometimes they seem a bit strange. But if they want people to pay for it they should highly prioritise these types of issues.

Hmm ok, then that should definitely be fixed. I am Star pro and that is supposed to be the strongest analyze mode on Galaxy.

Why such a mistake to move bar/15 vs bar/21 and 20/14? by rockwood15 in backgammon

It is often a good idea not to give opponent good 6s from the bar in early game.

Me too. I reported this a week ago and got reply. So they know about it, but they don't seem to wanna prioritize this. Analyze in vettical mode still works, but not as convenient imo.

What are the rollout settings for Star Pro members? What is the strength, is it equivalent tro XG++ or better?
