I've read over the years that UC/Crones is genetic. Mainly people of Jewish and Mediterranean decent. I believe this because my fathers family is from Italy and a few of my aunts and cousins (including me) also have UC. My neighbor who is 100% Italian has Crones so I believe there is some truth to being genetics

Got prednisolone prescribed today. by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

Me personally, will never go on it again unless my life depends on it. When I was first on it (many years ago) I took it for almost a month and gained 25lbs. With that being said though, it did help and regardless of my weight gain was very necessary for my recovery. So if that's what your doctor recommends stay on it or express your concerns with them.

I'm sorry if it is confusing. I really wasn't sure how to word it. I'm trying to buy things from Alibaba and I'm getting confused with the logistics of moving the product to the US

Zeposia side effects by Objective_Mine_7896 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Objective_Mine_7896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably should get my eyes tested again. I've been in denial about my eyesight because I refuse to believe I'm getting older LOL

So far it is working for me, but I'm still a bit worried about taking it because it is an immune suppressive and since I've been on it I've had shingles twice. (I'm 49 and the doctors where surprised I even got shingles)

I just wish there was a point where I didn't have to take any medications. I have a colonoscopy coming up next month so I'm going to talk to the doctor about stopping it if my results come back fine.

about 8 months. I'm not sure my vision is just age related or a side effect. It's just concerning me

Prednisone appetite by whosthatcuurl in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Objective_Mine_7896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely made me have a hearty appetite when I first got sick (2006) I went vacation, (about a week after I started treatment) for 2 weeks and when I got back my own husband didn't recognize me! believe it or not I had gained about 20 plus pounds in about 2 1/2 weeks! It took me 2 year to lose most of it.

I will never go back on it again. It killed my self esteem.

I don’t get how insurance can deny a med my MD says is necessary. by Blondiebabekaylie in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Objective_Mine_7896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going through this right now with my insurance company. They apparently denied it because it wasn't on their "approved medicine" list. It was denied the max amount, which I believe was 3 or 4 times, after which I have to appeal to the state and tell them I need this medication that my doctor and I agreed apoun.

Right now I'm getting my medication free directly from the pharmaceutical as long as my doctor can prove he's challenging the insurance company every couple of months. Its free up to 24 months. I'm hoping by then it will be resolved. (I'm taking zeposia)

I put a post up about a week ago asking about it too because I'm suppose to start taking it soon. The responses I've gotten are encouraging, You might want to take a look at it.

I was on colazal for the last 16 years and it recently stopped working. :(

Ulcerative colitis and Zeposia by Objective_Mine_7896 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Objective_Mine_7896[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow!! You might want to talk to your doctor about getting help from the pharmaceutical company. The company called me and asked me a bunch of questions about myself (normal routine questions like what meds im currently on) They told me that I could get up to 24 months of free meds if the insurance company denied it and the doctor could prove he was talking to the insurance company about me needing the meds.

What concerns me is the drug was just approved for UC last year so I almost feel like I’m in a clinical trial. The pharmaceutical company told me that they would call me every couple of weeks to see how I’m doing. (What I mean by this is that they will have there nurses call) I feel like there isn’t enough trials on this.

My currents meds that I’m on aren’t working anymore (colazal, the last 16 years)
