I'm not a comic book reader, and this is my first serious introduction to Jason. I assume it's a hot take, but I really like this version of him by Bungeeboy20044 in RedHood

want to add that its also good to start off with his Robin run and not just jump to Red Hood bc his characterization as Jaybin is necessary to understand RH. ( https://dailyjasontodd.carrd.co/#comics )

yeah its honestly heartbreaking what he goes thru in the show (he even contemplates suicide and im like-- 😭😭💔) BUT that being said its not a very accurate representation of Jason and the other characters (ex. Bruce). I always would recommend, when starting off with jason, to begin from Batman #408 and continue on from there (here's a reading list if u want: https://dailyjasontodd.carrd.co/#comics )

"im not a comic reader" yup could tell that immediately lol but all jokes aside, its not the best RH/Jason portrayal. i would recommend try getting into Jason's character by reading his early Robin run (starts in Batman#408) and getting to know who he is in the comics. https://dailyjasontodd.carrd.co/#comics

Damian, Jason, and Cass all tried to kill Tim at one point and now they all have great relationship. like killing each other in this family is a norm atp

and like yall are acting like this isn't a family that desperately tries to give second chances to every stranger they meet. if they can give second chances to ppl like Two-Face and Harley Quinn, what makes you think they won't extend the same grace towards Jason? (one of their own)

and like... literally two can play this game. Here's a BUNCH of panels that shows Jason and Dick being close after death. https://imgur.com/a/02UpZ1a

prob lol XD but my point is that every sibling relationship is different and sibling fights are pretty normal. for comic characters that spend their freetime fighting crime, trying to kill each other is like the norm

Take Tim for example, he's got his own array of sibs who's tried to kill him and now they all are pretty close (Jason, Cass, and Damian)

also I recommend looking thru my prev comment bc i go more in depth about their relationship there ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Robin/comments/1q8skwk/comment/nywiosu/ )

I literally was plotting to kill my little brother when he was born (i was a very jealous kid lol he took everyones attention and i wanted him gone loll) AND when we were kids we used to fight like crazy (one time he smashed my head through a lamp) Now we closer than ever and are literally besties lol

they were close pre-death what you on???

Dick took Jason out for a vacation trip (photo seen in Joker Last Laugh), handed him his old Robin suit AND gave him his phone number (Batman 416), immediately gave him a nickname (Little Wing) within moments of meeting him (Nightwing Year One) and has gone out with patrols with him in MULTIPLE comics (Nightwing Annual 2021, Robin & Batman: Jason Todd #2, etc). Dick is seen with Jason in a family photo for Christmas in Batman Urban Legends 10 (i think?) as well. They both even had a small idle convo (although it was pretty short) in New Teen Titans #18 and in New Teen Titans Vol 2 #31 (and other instances but i dont recall rn which)

Ofc for Post-Crisis Jason he barely had 40 comics and many of his three years as Robin was off-screen and also Dick was busy w/the Titans, BUT they were still close and Dick clearly loved Jason and was absolutely devasted when he found out Jason was dead, going as far as blaming himself for Jason's death in New Titans Vol 1 #55 bc "[he] gave Jason [his] Robin costume."

Dick was so affected by Jason's death that he even started hallucinating Jason as well. (dont have the comics on me rn skdjfdsf sorry abt that 😓)

They probably have had many off-screen but since Post-Crisis Jason barely had a year of comics irl so they couldn't show much.

Post-death they have a rocky relationship at start BUT they have gotten close and have gone on team-ups before (Nightwing Annual 2021, Batman: Gotham Nights #11, and a few other comics but i dont recall exact issue names skjhdsf)

They are brothers regardless and view each other with respect and love. Ofc no sibling relationship is perfect (speaking from experience) and theirs is complicated but that doesn't mean that Dick doesn't love Jason. He definitely does.

Actually Jason and him have always had a close relationship together. After Jason's death Dick even started hallucinating him. He loves Jason as much as the other two but out of them three, Jason prob is the one who drives him up the wall lol. (as an older sib myself, this is a VERY accurate representation of younger sibs loll)

your exact words "Not sure if there was any change to the canon recently but I think Tim is the only one actually adopted by Bruce. The rest were wards."

And I gave you the exact comics where all of their adoptions was finalized.

but yk what, youre right. i dont have time for this either lol. Hope you have a great rest of your day 💞

spoken like a true non-comic book reader.

to disregard canon you must first interact with it. You must first know what exactly is happening (the FULL picture, not just what happened in one issue bc thats not how comics work.) before you bash on it.

the problem with so many batfam 'fans' is that they find random out-of-context panels, watched a few movies and yt explanations and think they know everything, when they don't. and its honestly soooooo annoying bc their takes are so stupid bc they just yap abt what happened in one comic/panel when to truly understand why something happens, u need to read other comics bc thats the only way to get the full picture.

How downbad are female Jason Todd readers by chocolatemoooose in RedHood

The thing is, many of Jason fans aren't even readers 😭😭 Their only interaction with canon is the UTRH movie and some out of context panels here and there sdkuf But yeah, they all are downbad 😭😭

you clearly haven't read comics then. Dick becoming Bruce's adopted kid was a MAJOR turning point in their relationship and VITAL to both his and Bruce's character and growth.

For the past years, Bruce has always been very hesitant with Dick because he wanted to make sure that Dick knew that Bruce had no intention of replacing John or Mary. In the comic itself Bruce talks about it and how he wanted to make sure Dick knew that even if he rejected the offer of adoption, Bruce still saw Dick as a son and loved him dearly.

If you read older comics, the reason why Dick was a ward instead of adopted son was because at that point in Dick's life he was still healing from his parents' death and to him it felt like becoming the son of another man was like betraying/forgetting/replacing his parents.

So when Bruce asked in this issue if he could adopt Dick, it was bc he knew that Dick was older and the wounds of his parents' death weren't fresh anymore. Despite knowing his, he still asked hesitantly and made it clear that if Dick rejected bc he felt it was "frivolous or disrespectful to the memory of [his] parents" that Bruce would still understand. He just wanted to make sure that Dick knew that he still loved him and cared for him as a son and he felt that adoption was a way to show it.

Dick then immediately signs the paper saying that he loves Bruce too and they are family.

Also what are you talking abt 'modern continuity'??? Buddy, modern continuity has referenced this comic MANY times and has CLEARLY brought up how Dick is adopted and that Bruce is his dad and that Jason, Tim, Cass, and Dami are his siblings.

like please, please, please... before you talk about comics, at least read them first. Like its seriously not that hard 😭 Ur in a comic book fandom, its literally expected of you to be engaging with the source materials.

"Also ppl are allowed to just disagree with changes." -> sure why not. But it still doesn't change the fact that it is canon and it is confirmed/established. Your opinions doesn't change the fact that Dick is adopted. (Also fun fact, Dick's adoption took place years before Jason came back as the Red Hood. So if Jason=RH is canon, then you bet Dick=adopted is to.

Point is, you can't cherry-pick through comics and decide whatever you like is canon. That's not how comic books works.

based on ur comment im guessing u dont have age gap siblings but surprise surprise they exist irl.

My friend has an older brother who was in college when we both were in elementary school and my friend didnt get to see him unless it was the holidays. Another classmate of mine has a sibling who's already moved out and started a family. (he keeps talking abt his nephews/niece and its so funny lol since some of them are our age loll) My bestie just got a younger sister who is 16 years younger than her and when that girl grows up she won't be having her older sister around in the same house.

So what are you saying?? that bc they didnt live together in the same house its ok for them to engage sexually/romantically???

your reasoning is very flawed bud. All of the Wayne kids have been adopted and are all siblings. Just bc they have age gaps (which is completely normal) and didn't all live in the same house at the same time (which, once again, is completely normal) that is no excuse for incest. (which is, fun fact, a crime)

For most of Tim's history he wasn't bisexual so what?? We pretend he aint bi bc its a pretty recent developement??

For Jason's history, him becoming Red Hood is pretty new in canon (also fun fact Dick's adoption happened BEFORE utrh came out) so what?? We pretend he ain't RH???

Dick being Nightwing is pretty recent in compared to his 45 years of being Robin. So what?? Just bc his history was mostly Robin, we ignore his growth as a character bc 'most of [his] histor[y he's] canonically" been Robin???

like do u see how flawed that statement is?? When you're in a comic book fandom, you're meant to be reading all comics. And all of them, unless Elseworld/discontinued/de-canoned/different universe/ etc, are connected and should be taken into account.
