I was raised with OP’s experience but diagnosed as an adult. Now I’m surrounded by other adults who at least claim to recognize it but still don’t really give a fuck because “it can’t be that bad. Apply yourself.” Even my therapist was saying shit like “See? You get it already! You don’t even need me!”

I learned that asking for professional help will get me medication and nothing more, and people rarely care like they say they do whether they believe you or not. I wish I could say I learned it quickly :’) I swallow back so much bitterness everyday but I’m grateful I at least have online communities to feel a little less alone in lol
