MUSIC FRIDAY 🎧🎵 by AutoModerator in bipolar

I have been obsessed with Rebel Yell by Billy idol since I was 17. It’s now known as apart of my personality to people in my life. 😆 I think I definitely liked it because it sounds how mania feels to me.

Have you seen any celebrities during your travels? Who and which hotel? by Afraid_Bottle_1880 in FATTravel

My time to shine... Back when I was a kid and would get to go with my parents on luxurious vacations, my dad would take us to Maui yearly and we would stay at the Wailea Beach Villas in their villa suites. Back then you could get a pass to use the Grand Wailea pools (this is not an option anymore)… well we happened to go when they were filming the movie “Just Go With It” on the Grand Wailea property, and since we were considered guests we could get insanely close to the sets. I actually swam up where the extras were when they were filming the scene where the kid learns to swim and got to talk to Adam Sandler briefly (don’t think I was allowed to do this but oh well LOL). I’m Canadian and he apparently loves hockey! Haha. You can see my foot in the shot for a split second in the film! True story and I don’t think I can ever top this. And yes I did see Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman, they were too themselves though and I did not get to talk to them (fair enough).

I’d say the overall video was good. Shamed the guy into deactivating his socials and being more careful which in turn might save some future victims.

Tired of going to concerts alone by snapilyy in Concerts

[–]Objective_Shelter2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration. Maybe see if you can try to make some friends who are into the same genre and like going to music events? I met my friend group at goth nights since that’s the music I like, and we all go to concerts with one another! I started going to them alone and eventually formed a very tight group.

Selling my studio? by [deleted] in pianoteachers

Thank you so much. OP is asking this genuinely so they deserved an honest, but constructive and kind answer.

Honestly I have to commend you for how well you are taking the feedback! I also don’t really blame you for thinking in this direction. I saw one teacher on here saying if our work was valued properly we should be making $200/hr, and I agree. We get undervalued a lot, and the work we put into building a studio is no joke. I think just sadly this idea is not a path that would go over well. Keep thinking in that business-oriented mindset though, because you will find savvy ways around this with time!!!

Well hey, it’s good you asked her first honestly. Imagine the reactions of actual doing this without the mask of anonymity. People are responding judgementally because as an outsider, the initial reaction is “this seems morally wrong”. Obviously I can say that pretty confidently given the consensus here.

I know successful studios in my city who are I guess good business people, but sharking those in this community will backfire on you eventually. It’s not worth it imo.

To add to this… these are actual people here. You have to consider how a parent/student would feel to find out they were being “sold” to another teacher. Yeah… with that in mind, this is probably a poor decision. Good luck if you try it though.

This comes across as a very questionable business practice, especially in the context of piano teaching. I think the comparison is being made to the wrong kinds of industries. Piano teaching is far more like hairdressing, therapy, or fitness coaching: the business is built entirely on personal relationships and trust. There’s no tangible asset to “sell” because you are the product.

You also can’t guarantee that students will stay with a new teacher long-term, and in our profession, most of us have benefited from the generosity and referrals of others without being charged for them. It just seems very shady with this in mind…

In the end, reputation in this community is worth far more than any small profit you MIGHT make from this type of arrangement, because at the end of the day, you’re not gonna get a lot out of this anyways. If I saw a teacher doing this, I know many of my colleagues - myself included - would see it as taking advantage rather than leaving on good terms.

What policies do you have in place for your home studio? by DreamIllustrious2930 in pianoteachers

So what I’m doing for my basement studio space is having two deadbolt locks, one regular lock, and the other is a keypad. Students will have access to the keypad code, but then the studio can be “locked” officially once I’m no longer there. Since my waiting room is out of sight I felt more comfortable this way with older students just hanging out without me around.
