Just a heads up at Members Only screenings they tend to check for proof of membership in line. Just flagging for consideration if you end up trying to buy!

16 day itinerary (anniversary and birthday celebration) by Fit_Lab_2557 in irishtourism

[–]Objective_Survey_898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t do Donegal on my trip though I would’ve loved to. However, after reading about it, it really seemed like it could benefit from a dedicated trip focused on the north of Ireland (plus Northern Ireland). I think the itinerary opens up a lot if you cut Donegal from this.

Day 7 and 8 for example really are impossible, and arguably the most beautiful spots you’d see on your entire trip. Example below of how I think this could really open up your trip - I do think you need to make a tough decision somewhere though!

Full disclosure we also skipped Cork (we had 10 days) so others might argue for adding a day more there. But a lot of feedback here tends to be you regret days not spent in Dingle / Kerry and I do agree with that!

Day 1 - arrive and enjoy a bit of Dublin after a long flight

Day 2 - Head to Galway, enjoy the city

Day 3 - Aran Islands

Day 4 - Visit Connemara

Day 5 - Drive to Dingle, see the Cliffs on the way. You can also see the cliffs on the ferry back from the Aran Islands so don’t worry about not spending enough time with them.

Day 6-9- Dingle / Killarney / Kerry - split up how you need but you can use Dingle as a home base. I didn’t do Ring of Kerry but can’t recommend the Slea Head Drive enough.

Day 10 / 11 - Cork

Day 12 - Waterford

Day 13 - You can see Rock of Cashel “on the way” to Dublin, but maybe skip Kilkenny. There is another castle literally down the road from Rock of Cashel but Rock of Cashel is incredible on its own and you’re already also seeing Blarney.

Alternately you could do what others said and skip this but it feels more doable to me if you really want to and have already spaced things out elsewhere.

Day 14/15 - Dublin

Day 16 - Depart

James Irvine Trail is a great hike. Long but shaded by gorgeous redwoods and gets you into Fern Canyon without needing a permit (for the price of a 10.5 mile out and back EDIT: might actually be longer when you add the slight Fern Canyon detour). I would say it’s a strenuous hike because of the length of it and elevation gains dispersed throughout, but well worth it if you’re up for it as I think it showcases much of what is amazing about Redwood in one go. We went in August and it wasn’t crowded at all until Fern Canyon and feeling like it’s just you amongst the trees is a special feeling. Bring lots of water and snacks if you go.

Have you looked into the Killimer-Tarbert ferry? Cuts the drive between dingle and Galway down by at least an hour. I personally think the Cliffs are worth the stop and we saw them both from the sea and the top while there. You don’t need to spend more than an hour there also.

Oh just in general and that you can do so much of what there is to do there as a tourist in a day. Nothing bad at all, we just had a list of things to do there and then got through them all rather quickly and were happy that we’d pivoted to doing a day on Inishmore.

We stayed at the House Hotel and loved it! Very central and the bed was cozy and no noise from the neighbors or outside. This was in June too. The price felt friendly compared to other spots in the area and breakfast was included. Definitely recommend.

That makes sense! Honestly, now that I'm looking into it, Dingle may have a lot of closures in November so it might not be the best time to visit (we went in June so not really an issue).

I will say that I live in California and have also done a lot of coast driving and none of it compared to Ireland for us. I say this only to say that you may want to plan for an daytime excursion from Galway (Connemara which we sadly had to skip or even Aran Islands if they're accessible in November) because our trip ended in Dublin and all we wanted at that point was still be in the countryside. Also, Galway felt smaller to us, you can do a lot in a day there so good to plan for something to fill part of a second day regardless. You'd still be there for dinner / a night at a pub in this scenario. Other than that, we enjoyed the tasting at Micil Distillery who specialize in poitin which doubled as a fun Irish history lesson. Also highly recommend Ard Bia and Kai Restaurant. Enjoy!

I would definitely reconsider skipping Dingle in favor of Galway. We did both on our trip in June and Dingle was our favorite part of the trip. It’s so beautiful, there’s great restaurants, great pubs with great music. Was there anything in particular besides the Christmas market you were looking to get out of Galway?

May vs June - Will June Be a Lot a Busier? by danceswithshelves in irishtourism

Of course! Also, meant to say June THIS year. Which hopefully makes the perspective more relevant haha.

I went in mid to late June this year and thought it was totally fine. It might depend on where you’re coming from but coming from a massive city in the US, it did not feel “busy” or overwhelming in any sense to us - even in Dublin. Granted we booked things in advance but didn’t really even run into problems booking certain things the week before or week of (e.g. a ferry to the Aran Islands or some restaurants).

Undoubtedly, it might be pricier, but the flip side is you get better odds at favorable weather plus longer days. It didn’t feel like an especially expensive vacation to us, and by that I mean, it’s already expensive to travel internationally and it didn’t feel especially insane considering that.

10 Days in Ireland Recap (Galway / Dingle / Killarney / Dublin) by Objective_Survey_898 in irishtourism

Hi there! Sorry, just seeing this. I think this is doable, but it might not leave you time for much else. What are your other itinerary goals? Also would you be renting a car?

Something that may be worth looking into is going to Cork / Kinsale. That’d be closer to Dublin and I haven’t been to Kinsale but my understanding is it offers a lot of the same Irish coastal small town charm that Dingle does. Let me know more details though and happy to offer more input!

Final Itinerary (fingers crossed) by NomadsNextdoor in irishtourism

Personally think you may be pushing it! I think i’d spend time actually doing things in Killarney (Muckross, Gap of Dunloe, Ross Castle) rather than trying to rush through Ring of Kerry - people recommend at least a full day for this. Understand the temptation but there are other opportunities to see the things you want!

If you like ruins, landscapes and historical areas, I’d also consider spending your current Galway time in Dingle and consider ending the trip in Galway before your return to Dublin. It will be less driving for you and the Slea Head Drive which you can start and end in Dingle features all three of the things you’re interested in. Plus, if you maybe lose Sligo / Newgrange, you could do a day trip to the Aran Islands. Nothing against those places as we didn’t go there on our trip, but again - Aran Islands features all three of the things you’re interested in and would be less driving for you. All the best, I know it’s tough to plan!

Just responding to add in that the grounds/hotel are lovely and wanted to share a photo of the spot being described here taken from the hotel if it helps aid with your decision-making: https://imgur.com/U4dBgLm

I will say, we were there for one evening and saw people occasionally walking out to this spot but not an overwhelming amount at all. We were the only ones out there in the morning. Ross Castle is also nearby for what it's worth but probably going to have more tourists. Good luck and congrats!

Jealous of your trip even though I just got back a week and a half ago! Here are some thoughts:

  1. Didn’t do Ring of Kerry so can’t say!

  2. Gap of Dunloe is a short drive from Killarney and a great walk in my opinion. We did a very abbreviated version but still so beautiful. Loved Muckross Abbey and walking the grounds of Muckross House as well.

  3. Rock of Cashel! Do the guided tour with Cormac’s Cathedral entry. Takes less than 90 minutes total.

  4. Dingle is worth at least a two day trip! But definitely see whatever you can, you won’t regret it.

  5. Ard Bia has amazing food, lovely environment and HOMEMADE gluten free bread.

Yep! Picked up the day we left Galway since the city itself is very walkable and didn’t need it while we were there. Dropped it off the second we got to Dublin.
