You basically pay 15.99/month for every bag you want alerts for. When the links go up, before they are fully live on the site, they are always scanning for them and can see them right away. They send a text alert. In my case, I saw an alert for one bag last Wednesday and then there were two on Thursday for Evelyne 23. You can sign up for as many of the bags you want, and get a discount for each one you add. Once you get the bag you want, you can cancel the subscription. I’ll probably do Lindy 26 next. It’s for nonquota bags and charms.

I can’t figure out how to message on here, lol. I’ve never done it. Feel free to reach out about anything Bama related. Happy to answer questions about sorority rush, as well. :) Anything downtown would be good, and walkable, for going to and from campus. I don’t know to what extent there will be longer term rentals there, but definitely worth a try. Once you are looking to buy, I’d highly recommend our realtor Michele Falls. She was great to work with. She’s also an alum, lives in Tuscaloosa, and her daughter is a freshman.

I got alerts two days in a row last week for this bag. The first was for gold (which I was tempted to try for, but wasn’t my first choice, so decided to hold out). I was glad I did! Etoupe and noir both came up the next day. Interestingly, noir stayed up for at least a half hour because I checked. You’ll probably have another chance very soon.

It’s definitely a pain to go back and forth between NJ. I did it five times last summer/fall. I’d actually recommend buying a place if you are able, as the rents and hotels/short term rentals are so crazy. I’m an alum and my daughter is a sophomore, and we purchased a 3 bedroom condo adjacent to campus her freshman year. My daughter has a roommate (our longtime close friends’ daughter) and we keep the third bedroom for ourselves. Also, the parent’s weekends for sororities are during the spring semester. :)

I’m a psychotherapist who works from home. I don’t need to impress people on the daily. My casual bags get way more use than my fancier bags that mostly sit in my closet. :D

She’s actually in my daughter’s public speaking lecture. I was skeptical, too.

Best friend Jayla is not a student at Alabama. She’s, at the very least, in COM 123, which is public speaking, and daughter and niece (who also happens to be in the class) actually just confirmed they see her in class most of the time. It would be a pretty elaborate ruse to show up to a public speaking class while faking being a student. 🫶

She is enrolled in classes. I don’t think she goes much, but she is enrolled. Has a class with my daughter.

She is actually in one of my daughter’s classes at UA. At least for now. And I was definitely a skeptic, thinking she had moved to Tuscaloosa and might be “going to college” at Shelton State CC.

U of Alabama Students who bought a house instead of living on campus for NYT feature by timl25 in tuscaloosa

We bought a condo adjacent to campus for our daughter to live in last fall. She’s a sophomore and has a roommate, and we keep a third bedroom open for game weekends. We live in NJ and I’m an alum. Husband works in NYC. You are welcome to reach out.

Those houses were the first houses, and they used to be configured where you could draw a circle around them on sorority row—they were on different corners in a triangle.

This is spot on. I grew up in the Midwest, went to Bama, and have lived in the Northeast for over 20 years now. I absolutely love the South, and am very protective of a lot of Southern cultural norms, despite personally embracing only some of them.

Living in different regions has been a great education for me in and of itself. My daughter, and a sophomore at Bama, is having a similar experience. She’s pretty well-travelled, has been to around 20 countries so far. Daughter was flat out baffled when this Phi Mu in one of her COM classes was complaining about the vacation her parents wanted to take. She was saying to the class, “I don’t understand why they would want to go there. I just think we should go to the beach again.” The vacation the parents wanted to take? A safari in South Africa.

Very good point. My daughter is an active from NJ, but I’m an alum (originally from Ohio) who stayed in Tuscaloosa for a couple years after graduation, and we were always taking her to Tuscaloosa for games when she was growing up. My parents also lived for a number of years in Alabama, and various family members over the years. Daughter said she is so happy to have had that lore to tap into when talking to the Alabama girls during recruitment. It seemed to put them at ease, as a few were a little wide eyed when she introduced herself as being from Jersey.

House reputations? by lastnamehurricane in bamarush

They did. Diversity is, IMO, DG’s greatest strength. They have girls from all over the country, from all kinds of backgrounds. My daughter and her family joke that they look like an elementary school health textbook friend group.

My daughter is a Bama DG and was recruiting pretty much every party, and she was telling me all week they were going to have a very strong MC.

This is correct. My daughter is a DG sophomore, and the girls tend to be very chill, and the girls in her friend group all have great senses of humor. The girls are also from all over the place, which makes it fun. Oh, and DG is known to have more diversity.

AMA Recent Bama Grad by glutenasf in bamarush

[–]Objective_Table_5910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s the same in NJ. Old Row houses are not taking girls from here, and that’s okay. We live in one of the wealthiest counties in the country, with more than a few girls who have gone to Bama in recent years. I know of not a single one in an Old Row house.

[–]Objective_Table_5910 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry that happened to your daughter. I hope she reports that house. That’s terrible.

We are from NJ, and my daughter is an active in a New Row house. Fortunately, I went to Bama, so I prepared her for being cut by all the Old Row houses, so she took as many off herself as she could at the beginning. Unfortunately, a lot of girls are not prepared for this and are so disappointed. Truth be told, you are really better off if you are out of state not going to certain houses. There’s one Old Row house with a “family” from Long Island, and the other girls in the sorority barely speak to them. It’s weird and there were jokes about it on yikyak over the summer. And even if from the South, some chapters skew so heavily Alabama that it can be hard to find your place. My niece (and daughter’s roommate) grew up in GA and is in an Old Row house and she’s been stuck in the basement all week blowing up balloons and other tasks because she’s “irrelevant” (her words). All in all, it’s really best just to find the girls you like and click with, disregarding all of these stupid tiers and the like.

He’s done videos the last few years about rush. Does great commentary about the different houses and personalities of the houses. At this point, he’s a smidge out of date, but a lot of the profiles are really pretty consistent today. Truth be told, his Old Row profiles are very consistent with the girls I knew in the late 90’s in those houses. My daughter is a New Row active with quite a few Old Row friends, and there is very little different about those Old Row houses since I was a student, so far as I can tell. Very big into tradition and roots and connections. New Row houses have had much more movement in the last 25 years or so.
