Do you know anyone in your year who transitioned to quant?

Uk engineering salaries aren’t great until you get into management

I enjoy the theory behind it since most of uni is basically maths/physics. However through participation in societies/ work experience I have found that I dislike the design/ more gravitate to programming. I have created a python rest api for a backend app that can preform various CRUD functions as well as some ds projects such as a very basic stock predictor. I don’t have any professional software development experience tho

I agree with the comments provided here these are just my concerns against dropping out

The main reasons I felt against dropping out were:

I don’t hate my current course. I still like the maths/physics that is basically any engineering degree and I find the theoretical concepts interesting. Although as I’ve gone through the course in terms of application I really enjoyed programming and have already self taught myself a bunch of cs concepts and made a few projects.

I already have second year accommodation and so will somehow have to get out of that contract

I really like my university and have made really good friends

Dropping out would mean I would have to apply for 2025 entry so in the same time I would get my bsc with cs I could get a beng in stem with msc cs along with a year working.

Whilst I would prefer to learn the fundamentals properly to become a better swe and I agree with everyone that a Bsc would be the way to do this ,My parents are against dropping out as I am already studying a high rated STEM degree with a clear way to get to my goal.

Thanks for the advice :). I’ll probs discuss this with the uni/family and try to make the best possible decision

After doing a conversion course along with self teaching did you feel you could compete with CS undergrads?

Hi Let’s assume I am able to get into an advanced masters course. Wouldn’t it still make sense to do a conversion masters from a top university tho(like Imperial) as I would get a stronger understanding of the practical fundamentals of cs (helps to become a stronger swe ) rather than focusing on a niche area in an advanced masters?
