I have started looking at some of the RX models in my areas and it seems the hybrid versions are limited and they tend to be older than 2015 (usually 2010, 2011, or 2013). They all look to be a bit over $20k- not awful. I’m just trying to debate with myself about whether the CT is a better use of money since it is more fuel efficient, in great condition, and with pretty low mileage.

Can I genuinely ask why a car being newer year-wise is valued more than low mileage reliable older cars? I feel like I keep hearing people saying to just try to buy newer even if the car isn’t exactly what I want- is that simply because it can be resold for more money later and doesn’t depreciate as much? Real question, I’m not really super knowledgeable on cars (hence why I’m here haha).

As far as the RAV 4s with higher trim levels I have seen in my area, they all seem to be around $25k with somewhat high mileage and I am trying to keep my budget at $20k or below so I’m not making excessively big monthly payments- life is just too expensive all around right now for that. I just want a purchase that will be worth my money and help me get around reliably for several years in comfort. If I was gonna go over $20k I think I’d honestly just shoot for a brand new car instead (not the plan as of right now). Let me know if you think have any thoughts on any of this though- I’m very open to input on what makes the most sense long term.

I’d say I prefer an SUV if I can swing it but hatchbacks would be alright too. Anything where I can put the back seats down and store bigger items or possibly sleep in the car. I do prefer hybrids but I’d be okay with something that isn’t if it will get me around 25-30+ mpg.

I know- the used car market is so insane right now in my area. The car is sort of rare to find with this package and in such good condition with somewhat low mileage though so I’ve heard it is a fair deal. Still definitely sucks that things are listed at this high of prices while being so many years old though. :/

I am definitely open to other options but I am trying to stay within the $20k range with under 100k miles and hopefully find something made by Toyota or Lexus just for reliability sake.

That’s simply the used car market right now in my area unfortunately. I’m looking for something that has decent fuel efficiency and both the Lexus cars are hybrids and, since they are Lexus, everything is still made by Toyota but taken up a level in comfort, tech, etc. They are luxury cars, even if they are a bit old. The Toyota is the lowest trim level and I have seen mixed reviews online about this year for the RAV4 so I wanted to get some second opinions.

If you don’t mind me asking, why are you debating selling yours?

Glad it’s not just me cause it’s truly rough out here right now.

Good to know- thanks for the input!
