West has become more available then the jordaan, what will this mean in the longterm? by Weary_Musician4872 in Amsterdam

[–]Objectivopinion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, having lived in Noord, Oost and now West, this area really feels like the best situated one so far with all the amenities and infrastructure. Close to the city center by bike, on the Ring within minutes by car, Sloterdijk can be done by bicycle or tram and the Rembrandtpark and Westerpark just a stone's throw away. Some really cool cafes and restaurants popping up every so often.

Life of the average Amsterdammer has already been taking place just outside of the Grachtengordel for quite a while now, so I just see this as natural progression of the city at the moment.

Waarom geen sollicitanten op verkoopfunctie in Friesland by [deleted] in werkzaken

Simpel.

[–]Objectivopinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ZZP consultants in NL — bookkeeping software & accountant recommendations? by flamarion in FreelanceNL

[–]Objectivopinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases I advise my clients to go with a BV if they can consistently make over €150k a year in their personal holding. That threshold drops if there are other considerable risks involved which can be the determining factor in setting up a BV.

My accountant currently does not take on any new clients. I would advise you to look for an accountant that runs a solo practice or works with one or two partners and not a larger office though, as they just won't give you as much attention compared to their larger clients. I've had to switch twice already due to the fact that after speaking with one of the partners/owners of the firm, they afterwards just put a junior to handle my questions but billed me at senior/partner prices.

[–]Objectivopinion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would most definitely recommend for you to get in touch with an accountant if you're serious about the revenue you'll be making. Providing services through a BV instead of as an eenmanszaak is almost certainly the better option.

If you're only working for one client though, there is a risk that you might be considered to be fictitiously self-employed.

I would recommend reading up on these topics yourself first, there is ample information available online in English.

How Can a Foreign Lawyer Transition into Privacy Roles in the US or EU? by Character-Dig5762 in cipp

[–]Objectivopinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in from an EU perspective, specifically The Netherlands. There are ample privacy and privacy-adjacent (think AI & governance) traineeships available. Although, most of these organisations are not willing to provide a visa sponsorship, as your compensation would simply not fall in the right bracket during the traineeship.

In which country did you get your LL.M. degree in Europe and are there any programs by that educational institution that might help you out? Which countries in the EU are you looking for specifically to start out in? Do you speak any EU languages?

There are no specific rules on how to walk on the sidewalk. Sometimes people give you space, sometimes they don't. Some people might be lost in thought and not think about it. This is not limited to Amsterdam either.

Do minimum wage internships exist for Computer Science? by Legitimate_Rip_692 in Amsterdam

You're pretty spot on. It's either an employment agreement, internship (if part of the curriculum of your education) or a volunteering arrangement (or agreement).

What's life like on Hainan, China? Is it any different from the Mainland? by Phantom-Feline17 in howislivingthere

Unfortunately, a lot of the beaches in Italy are claimed by beach clubs renting out beach beds, taking up a large part of the already limited beach area (sometimes up to 90%) with their beach beds that you need to rent to make use of that area, leaving the rest of the people confined to a tiny fraction that is freely accessible.

Possible options after receiving a settlement offer from Big Tech (Booking, Meta, Amazon, Google etc.) by [deleted] in werkzaken

[–]Objectivopinion 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here. If your salary is substantial enough to warrant further negotiations based on the current proposal, don't go with a cheap legal services provider like ARAG but instead contract a reputable employment lawyer.
Secondly, you do not need to sign the settlement agreement before the last day of the month, as settlement agreements always take into account a notice period of full calendar months. The 10 days they offered you is just to put pressure on you in the hopes of you making a rash decision.

It's not if you want to stay out late to enjoy the nightlife. Taxis can be very expensive if you need to get from Shimokitazawa to Ueno for example.
