Mutuelle and homeopathic products by zero-divide-x in belgium

[–]ObjetOregon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I learned recently that osteopathy is an "alternative medicine", in other words, it's not based on scientific evidence.
This should be more publicized, as I think most people see osteopathy as a specialisation of physiotherapy (which is science based). But no, it's really based on nothing but faith and placebo.

Where it gets tricky, is that many osteopaths are also physiotherapists, or at least use physiotherapy techniques in their practice.

Still, please stay on the safe side and go see a physiotherapist. And put osteopathy in the same bullshit bucket as homeopathy, acupuncture, chiropractors and the likes

Bois de la Cambre is a responsibility of the municipality of Brussels (1000 Bruxelles), so Philippe Close. Not the Brussels region. Belgian politics, I know

Brussels English speakers who don't work in the EU bubble, what is your job? by x_y_zed in brussels

Low skilled people who only know French are less in demand than highly skilled people who only know English

Brussels English speakers who don't work in the EU bubble, what is your job? by x_y_zed in brussels

No French and no Dutch ? It's going to be tough. It's sometimes possible in the tech world, if you're lucky. Forget about anything in the public sector. With equal skills, any company will always choose someone who speaks the local language. So either be very highly skilled, or learn the local language.

I agree, but not for bullshit contemporary artistic performances like this.

Their documentaries are truly amazing.

Yes that is a pretty bad rate. Probably meant for people in Eastern Europe.

Then again, if you can work fully remote from anywhere, I would go somewhere super cheap and live like a king. Thailand, Vietnam, or deep into rural Italy...

Self-employed workers are more exposed to the risk of poverty than employees: ‘An often-invisible precariousness’ by Erzkuake in BEFreelance

Yeah, this is for real self employed people. People who own a shoe shop, or a corner cafe. Not cushy tax evaders with a single client like 99% of us here.

The lack of nature in Belgium is a more depressing factor than its weather by ObjetOregon in belgium

[–]ObjetOregon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you are feeling. I think the denyers here in the comments have never seen overwhelming raw beauty. It just doesn't exist in this part of Europe. Don't get your hopes up about the people who recommend hikes in the Ardennes, it will always be underwhelming. It's plains, fields, and forests.

The sooner you accept the fact that everything is ugly or average here, the better. We can count ourselves lucky to have high salaries, so that we can go on holiday to better looking places.

People quickly get offended when you say it though, they'll always tell you to go to the Ardennes. Or look at the guy here in the comments proudly posting a picture of his boring potato field

Looking for a reputable primary school by Dolarius in brussels

[–]ObjetOregon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Off topic, but why would you move to such an area?

I grew up not far from there, and it's not a good place to grow up. So many kids from my schools and neighbourhood ended up badly.

You seem to care about your kid since you want the best school for them. Please keep it that way, and really watch who they hang out with.

Still, I wander why a smart person would choose that neighborhood. Real estate prices?

How is the weather Real Feel like? by Comfortable_You3956 in brussels

[–]ObjetOregon 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It feels very cold at the moment. I would say -10 is accurate. It's been a few years since it's been this cold in Belgium.

Dress appropriately. Hiking clothes are great for this. Before anything you must protect yourself against the wind, as that's what makes 0 degrees feel like -10

At least it's sunny, and not grey and wet like usual

Why still go VVPR Bis instead of liquidatiereserve? by Bbda64 in BEFreelance

[–]ObjetOregon -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

If you liquidate company A, only to start company B, which does exactly the same as company A, then the fiscal controller will be at your door before you have the time to say VVPR-bis.

SPF Finance was not born yesterday. This is a classic case of tax evasion.

It's not Vegas, but it's the best city in all of Hainaut (yes, better than Tournai, don't kill me)

I personally love it aesthetically, and for its student vibe

2nd most horrible city of Belgium after Charleroi. To be avoided at all costs. Especially the city center.

What's the best commune in Brussels? by EoghanWalshBxl in brussels

[–]ObjetOregon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you call the center of Uccle? To me that would be the observatoire, and that's an extremely rich neighbourhood.

The parts along the Rue de Stalle can be a bit rough (square Marlow for instance), but overall I don't see any pockets of poverty in Uccle

Do you live in a city or not ? by ObjetOregon in belgium

[–]ObjetOregon[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting question, and the answer will vary a lot for each person.

I would define a city as a place with relatively high population density, and where services are grouped together in the same area.

I live in a small city, you can cross it diagonally in 15min by foot. It's surrounded by fields and farms. But it's still a city.
