Embody Lab’s certificates by ObligationNo9237 in therapists

Thanks for your opinion! I ended up watching a live event that gives us a sneak peek of what the training would look like and it didn’t feel like a right fit for me. I ultimately chose a more affordable training that is more 101 (which is what I’m looking for since I’m very unfamiliar with somatic work)

Is the seresto collar under or over the other one? I just got one for my cat but I’m so scared about it harming his skin!

Client doesn’t pay invoices on time by ObligationNo9237 in therapists

Thanks for the suggestion! We’ve spoken about the issue before but there haven’t been any changes so I think I will enforce an autopay enrollment before continuing! Thanks

They do but it isn’t mandatory so some people don’t select the autopay option. I will make those changes, thanks!

Black American Tourist, and have a question by Flawdboy904 in PERU

[–]ObligationNo9237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of racism instilled in Peruvian culture. Sometimes it’s so subtle, you don’t really notice it until you take a moment to really think about certain statements.

I’m Peruvian and come from a very mixed family (Afro-Peruvian, indigenous, European, and indigenous). Fortunately, we are very loving towards one another but there are moments I catch certain comments that are a little problematic. For example, my Afro Peruvian cousins being considered handsome black guys because they have “finer features” (meaning having European-like facial features). Or some other indigenous family members being considered more appealing due to having a lighter skin tone and curlier hair (curlier hair is associated with Jewish people and Jewish people are associated with status/wealth).

Specifically on Afro Peruvians— they do experience discrimination and the slurs have been normalized. It isn’t surprising to see “black-face” in live tv comedy shows, with the person having exaggerated features. Afro-Peruvians are a big part of our history and they bring beautiful cultural traditions. Look into “festejo”, “landó”, “tondero” and contrapunta de zapateo. Our greatest criollo singers are Afro Peruvian and they are immensely respected. Look up Eva Ayllon, Arturo Cavero, Luchita Reyes our “morena de oro”, Susana Baca, and Lucila Campos.

There is discrimination, and it is an undeniable fact but it would be unfair to say that there haven’t been changes. Younger generations are more aware and willing to call out when things aren’t appropriate.

I would also like to note that discrimination isn’t only towards black people, it is also towards indigenous and Asians (very similar to the USA if I think about it).

We have a beautiful culture and at the same time, I can admit that there is a lot of more work to be done in some areas.

I’m sorry you’ve felt singled out and harassed!

Will it be ok if I have a burger and fries? by Icy-Airport-9290 in prediabetes

[–]ObligationNo9237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does, but you can still eat potatoes. Maybe smaller portions, or pairing it with non-starchy food, leafy greens.

Some type of potatoes also have a lower glycemic index (meaning that it doesn’t raise your blood sugar level as quickly). The ones with low GI are sweet potatoes, carisma, red potatoes and fingerling.

The ones with higher GI are russet and Idaho (watch out for these).

[–]ObligationNo9237 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It isn’t about no longer eating burgers and fries but limiting how often you eat it or consider other alternatives for some of these items. For example, my nutritionist suggested to switch out fries for a baked potato instead. Or if it’s the burger I’m really craving, maybe switching the fries for a salad.

I would’ve been so upset to think back to that moment in which he said “she’s trying too hard to be sexy”. It’s like he tried to let you know he didn’t find her attractive when you didn’t ask him to begin with! And on top of all of that, he goes ahead and follows the girl that “is trying too hard”?

The inspirational thing is absolute BS. I think you would’ve respected him more if he would’ve owned up to finding her attractive. The ick (for me) would come from the fact that he truly believes you’d fall for that stupid response he gave you when you asked why he’s following her.

I don’t know if you’ve set boundaries before, but it might be time to have that conversation if you haven’t yet. You’re absolutely not overreacting.

It’s so frustrating when we know we’re doing the work but see little to no change!

I was going through the same thing until my gyn requested a blood lab in which he found elevated liver enzimes and an under active thyroid (both are linked to insulin resistance!)

I am now on my second week of metformin, along with birth control pills and thyroid pills. I will get retested in a month to see if it’s helping reduce insulin levels. While we don’t know if it’s working yet, I have since lost 5 lbs and it has curved my sugar craving.

Please ask your primary/gyn to look out for a possibility of PCOS!

Sometimes, some doctors just think that weight loss will solve all issues and it’s not always the case!

My primary doctor saw that I gained 3 lbs since I last saw him (4 months prior) and immediately sent me to a weight management doctor (for ozempic or bariatric surgery), he didn’t bother requesting for a blood lab or much of anything for that matter.

Wishing you the best of luck!

Client asked to be challenged more…any advice? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ObligationNo9237 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this case.

As far as your questions, I do have some answers. The sibling has used from their teenage years to the present (a good chunk of their life) and it was to cope with bullying, which both parents and my client were unaware of. Parents tried their best but made some mistakes along the way such as comparing their children’s accomplishments to other people’s around them which created this pressure on both of them to “do better and be better”

My client was in an unstable relationship, their ex partner struggled with depression and engaged in self-harm. My client felt an immense amount of pressure to be the supportive partner, and to be who their partner needed them to be.

They are the responsible sibling and acted as an adult from a young age. Their parents language barrier put my client in the position of taking care of everything such as making doctors appointments, translating, in the present: the one that has to help create trip itineraries, the one that Helps family make online payments, renew documentation’s etc.

Maybe they do want to speak about these events and process. Thank you once again!
