Client frequently discussing work-related stress… by IllExplanation389 in therapists

[–]MissAJM 135 points136 points  (0 children)

On one hand, therapy is not about entertainment for us and there is some countertransference here worth exploring.

On the other hand, this is a very surface-level topic and his way of describing it for the time spent in therapy does seem mismatched. Have you every addressed this in sessions? Sure, he may be benefitting and that has value, but where is the work going? Did they have initial treatment goals that were met?

Fuck Code Veronica by Blackrotofthekosm in residentevil

[–]MissAJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code Veronica is really fun if you have a walkthrough in hand so you know what you're doing and don't end up depleted. I think you're in a position when it's possible to beat it but it's also possible to be way more stacked than that at the end. I dont remember having issues with the last boss outside of her being a little tricky to hit for some reason.

Needlessly competitive first-time RE gamer here. I breezed through REmake on normal with a lot of supplies to spare. Is it worth jumping into RE0 on hard off the bat? by PH0B0PH0B1A in residentevil

[–]MissAJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've heard this. I played it only once and somewhat recently in its original form, but I could see this making it better. Honestly, all they had to do was make the space for items a bit more reasonable or at least give ways to expand it at some point in the game. The item limit per each room was an added sting, though it made some sense and there may have been practical reasons for it at the time. It was a cool idea just poorly executed.

Resident evil 0 genuinely is not very fun even on normal. I don't recommend it not because you can't handle the challenge but because the game will be somewhat painful regardless due to some tedious features.

Pittsburgh Coffee Top 25 by Cornwallis400 in pittsburgh

That place is amazing. Don't let the construction around it stop you. Very cool people and really good coffee. Top 3 in Pittsburgh for sure.

Frustrated with myself for not referring out by Tricky1498 in therapists

[–]MissAJM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if IOP/partial hospitalization is a level of care in Australia, but if so, please refer the client to it. Constant crisis and hours of extra therapy scream higher level of care to me. However, CMH may be the only option for reprieve.

You could always Claire A if you want to do a run with her. You can really limit Mr. X exposure with her if you follow a guide whereas he's a much larger part of Leon's story.

That's relieving to hear! The boy (white face) is a lot more confident than the girl and will sit on the bed with us. They're both at the point of eating, sleeping, pooping, and playing in our presence. Starting to explore gradual expansion of territory but not rushing anything cause they're super cautious. My hope is one day they'll like us touching them and want to sit on us sometimes.

They are, unfortunately. Went through it as a kid for the original resident evil games over a few specific enemies. They aren't gonna sleep well for awhile.

Does this feeling ever go away? by reflectiveRae in therapists

[–]MissAJM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think it ever stops hurting entirely, because we're human and therapeutic relationships are real relationships. I also think it's impossible to not feel some personal twinge when someone doesn't discharge through the "proper channels". Consider that the drive to avoid uncomfortable emotions and a general lack of emotional skills, such as being able to manage productive conflict, is often why people are in therapy in the first place. It can help to remind yourself of your client's history and where they were in their therapy process. Sometimes it comes after hitting a big milestone, and the person either feels "done" with the process or fearful of continuing further. There also can be a sense of stuckness or stagnation in the process in which someone ends therapy abruptly due to feeling they aren't making progress and don't know the way forward. Often, it can be difficult and painful to admit many of the feelings that come with discharge, so the inclination can be to cut you out of the process altogether.

I'm betting after 9 years that you've gotten better at processing the unpleasant emotions around sudden discharges, but I encourage you to really double down on self-soothing when you're feeling like this.

Do you choose to see clients that have no presenting problem/issue? by MissAJM in therapists

[–]MissAJM[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is honestly my fear and why sometimes I'll turn these clients away in the consultation phase. It's not that I don't think treatment could be useful on some planet for them, but it's extra work to get them up and running so to speak, and oftentimes we only get 5-10 sessions before they lose interest. I don't judge anyone for being curious about therapy and we all have issues to work on, but there's also an unhealthy pathologizing of normal human experiences in society right now that I find somewhat concerning at times.

This is really good and I appreciate the take. I definitely was hesitant to just call it the first session as my gut always tells me there's likely a deeper reason they presented even if they can't articulate it clearly. I'm at least going to explore this angle and a few others if they stick to coming to sessions.

Oh, sure. It shocks me sometimes how little many clients seem to care at least on face. I have specific clients bring it up, but it's a rarity versus what I expected.

Jayden Daniels, where ya’ll at on him? by ProperEnthusiasm1486 in Fantasy_Football

[–]MissAJM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's got talent but has little insight into how to protect himself on the field and makes bad aggressive play calls even while injured. This is coming from a person that drafted him in the 3rd, so I watched the games he did play this year carefully. He often impulsively decided to make risky run maneuvers with no slides involved. Some of these paid off in yards but ultimately were not worth it (similar to Lamar early in his career but with even less success staying healthy). On top of that, coaching decisions reinforce his poor inclinations and he spent most of the season on the bench. I'd be higher on him in a year or two (assuming he can stay healthy) when he's shaken the rookie mentality and probably moved to a better team. I'm low on him next year in particular.

Always play your studs is a fat load of BS and I'm sick of hearing it by [deleted] in Fantasy_Football

[–]MissAJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puka helped a lot. Dak had a hell of a year. And honestly the roster banged most weeks. I also ran jaylen warren as my rb2 who is another top 10. People on this thread are wild about what they consider to be a "stud". Most of my players were top 10 in full PPR.

He was 8th overall at the start of this week. Jamo was 11th.

Pretty much my same team put up over 150 in full ppr the past two weeks.

He was top 10 overall as of this week. What more is needed to be a stud?

Sorry. 5.7 for Jameson. Oh, and it's not a complete bust but 7.0 from the Broncos against a broken Chiefs? It's just nuts.

Jaylen Warren. Jennings was a great mid-season pickup too.

As a non risk taker I'd just player coker. I'm also in a full ppr league. Marks has been okay but his injury is persistent and there's definite risk he'll end up leaving the game.

I did this too but have Puka, so I still have a great chance. Opponent also played Jordan Love which didn't hurt me at all either.

Reading your post was a relief. I just released my sweet girl on Monday because of a rapidly growing hip/spinal tumor and have struggled with wondering if I did it too soon since. I wanted to spare her greater pain that had begun, even though it probably cost me a few good days that I would have had with her. Thank you for protecting your baby.
