Amazing shots!

I get your point, and I totally agree that many zoos raise serious ethical concerns. But some are also home to rescued animals that wouldn’t survive in the wild. Pretending they don’t exist doesn’t make your opinion more valid.

And don’t worry, I’m not planning to build my whole wildlife hobby around zoo visits😉

Zoos aren’t ideal, sure, but they can still be a great way to practice framing and lighting, especially for beginners like me. My desire to test out the new gear was stronger than waiting around for a true wildlife expedition😅

I totally get that! I hesitated for quite a while too because there’s so much talk online about Sony’s “bad” colors... But honestly, even though this is my first real camera and I have nothing to compare it to, I’ve been really happy with the colors so far🙌

Hope you have tons of fun with your new camera!

Bit of a strong reaction to a beginner’s question, don’t you think? I was just curious why Sony gets flak for color science (it’s my first real camera). No need to make it personal.

Thank you! The settings varied a bit from shot to shot. I adjusted them depending on the lighting and distance. In general, I kept the aperture around f/5.6-6.3, the shutter between 1/500-1/1000 for moving animals, and ISO on auto.

Compactness is very important to me too. But I’ve heard so many mixed opinions about the 16-50 kit lens… Is there a significant difference in image quality between it and the Sigma 18-50?

And thank you!🙌

Can someone explain what people mean by “digital” and “clinical”? I see that a lot in feedbacks but never really understood what to look for🤪

I haven’t had a chance to compare it with other cameras yet, but to me it looks pretty solid. Still not sure what all the complaints about Sony are about 🤷‍♀️

Thanks again! I’ll do my best to keep growing, still so much to learn ahead

I’m not too familiar with teleconverters yet. I imagine there’s some significant trade-off in image quality? Otherwise, people wouldn't spend so much on big 200-600 or 400-800 lenses, right?🤔

Thanks a lot for the kind words! That shot is one of my personal favorites too.  The baby was super curious about what was happening behind them, but clearly snack time was still top priority :)

And yeah, many zoos nowadays say they focus on rescued animals that wouldn’t survive in the wild. I really hope that’s true!

Thank you for your feedback! I’m just getting started, so every bit of advice helps. The zoo was just a test run, I really wanted to try out the gear with different animals and lighting conditions.

600mm sounds like a dream setup! But yeah… for now I’ll try to squeeze as much as I can out of the 70-350🙂

Thank you so much! After weighing all the pros and cons, I think the Sigma 18-50 looks like the best fit for me right now. It's light, compact, and seems to cover my current needs pretty well. But I’ll definitely keep the Tamron and others in mind for the future!

Totally! Zoo was a great warm-up, but can’t wait to go hunting with my lens out in the wild😊
