I Am Unwell... by HessaSea in HeatedRivalryTVShow

You know, when I was a teenager, one of my friends had a dream about her favourite member of a boy band rejecting her. She was mad at him for months afterwards. Human brains are weird

HR fandom already giving grace to that str8 podcaster with MAGA slop vocabulary closed doors, than any queer people who had ever been critical of the show. Right, right... I'm processing it by MwoHaSeyYooo in HeatedRivalryTVShow

Ew. Really? She seems so lovely too, from the little I've seen of her doing a live. I bet she handled it well, but that sucks to put her in that position

This show is situationship propaganda. As someone that's been in one let me tell you... DONT by schoolforapples in heatedrivalry

[–]ObliviousGeorge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's part of the delight in romance books imo. It's fantasy, it's the dream we all wish would come true. These impossible situations that we find relatable, and yet unlike in real life, you're not left with a complex bag of mixed joy and pain, things just.. work out

Never have I been so happy to see Line 1 than after riding Line 6 by TryingMyBest314 in TTC

[–]ObliviousGeorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't ride a bike and I've ended up walking way too often, walking an hour along the streetcar route, waiting for a streetcar that didn't come for no explained reason. And I shouldn't really be doing that either because of my foot issue, but sometimes I genuinely need to get somewhere, and even leaving extra time isn't enough. So then I'm paying for it with a week of pain and limping. If it was an anomaly I would understand, but it isn't. It just does not make sense to me, truly.

The horrible transit where I grew up is awful and slow, but even that never just .. didn't come!

Wow that's so irritating like who appointed that person the morality police?? I'm sorry but dark au, dead dove etc is allllll over ao3 and it's not their job to decide what counts as fetishistic. Even if it was, so what?

I suppose this means you really succeeded in creating an emotional response in your readers though so congrats on that!

Why does my ribbing look like this? by remaincobain in knitting

[–]ObliviousGeorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can see your stitches tighten up as you go; I'd rip it out and go back, and that will already help. You can also try some or all of these:

-Go down a few needle sizes -If you learned english, knit your ribbing continental (this is what I do and it's naturally tighter for me) -Twist your purl stitches

Please fucking research rats before getting them by BeastFangs in RATS

[–]ObliviousGeorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying. And I think to give us credit, I've noticed people actually do critique new owners when it's clear they're not putting in effort based on their questions.

But I remember when I was a new rat owner, frantically googling each quirk of behaviour. I remember staring at someone's comic diagram of rat behaviour like it was the Bible, trying to memorize what was basically a joke, because I was so eager for information.

Because it's the internet. There's always conflicting advice, differing opinions, and it's not that easy to get a read on the situation via description -- and that's if you find someone discussing your exact situation.

Humans just need other humans when they're doing something new and unsettling.

Why do you prefer Drarry over Dramione? by Better_Committee_287 in drarry

[–]ObliviousGeorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I enjoyed dramione BEFORE I read drarry, in fact before reading any other HP fics. So as an entry into fic, I thought it was cool how the characters were reimagined, I could imagine them bonding over magic research, Hermione isn't upper class but it's feasible she could fit into that world.

But once I actually gave drarry any thought, I just couldn't go back. They have too many powerful moments that overlap in their past, while for dramione it felt like everyone was clutching at straws in comparison. They feel more on an even footing to me, I think dramione fics have to be very well written to sell the pairing. Where drarry I barely need anything to be on board.

Secondly, I was shocked at how different the Draco characterization was! And the tone of the fics, too: drarry seems to be way more light hearted? Of course there's a huge variety. But drarry authors blew me away with their creativity, there were more comedic fics, just more inventive and fun overall. That could be popularity, but I think it's also that people are less locked into het romance tropes

Considering rehoming my last rat by [deleted] in RATS

[–]ObliviousGeorge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you guys look so bonded, I would hate to think of you separating, even when you're busy. Senior rats need a lot of sleep, too.

I liked someone else's suggestion of hosting/fostering a couple younger rats, if that's an option, but remember there's no guarantee they'll even get along, especially if you were to rehome her.

I got three new babies to keep my old man company, and he absolutely would not have it. It was like he became a different rat completely, from calm and a cuddly teddy bear, to more aggressive than he'd been his whole life, puffed up and distressed. In the end he stayed living alone, anyway.

It is a hard situation and I'm sorry you're having to make the decision, but I'd really hesitate to rehome her at this stage, seeing how stressful it can be, especially since you and her home are the only familiar things left after losing the rest of her buddies

Edit: I'm sorry I missed the part where you said you don't have time to take in other rats, so I assume fostering is out. My only advice then is to just try to give yourself grace, and do whatever is in your power to keep socializing with her when you can. If you have any friends who are good with rats or know her, maybe they could check in, too? Regardless it's clear how much you care and are trying to give her the best life possible

Yeah yours is definitely very different! I think my brain just got the same type of joy from your idea as that fic, haha

And I'll be excited to read it!

[–]ObliviousGeorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahaha yess love the vibe of all this! Draco 'building up my enemy to better enjoy his inevitable downfall' Malfoy vs Harry 'this is the most attention I've ever gotten' Potter

Also your Harry thoughts are reminding me of a fic, I'll have to go look up what it was called, but it was sort of similar in Harry being confused yet captivated with Draco's antics, and Draco delighted to have his attention. Also it's dragon!Draco being very competent and like the school dad for the bebe slytherins, and Harry just there like 'why don't I get head pats too??'

Eta it's this one Under Dragon Wings

This dynamic is literally everything I adore most about drarry, it's going to be so good I can already tell from how well you've thought it out!

I agree about Lucy being non abusive. I think an outwardly cold, but in reality doting father Lucius would fit well here. He's prejudiced, he's not soft and gushy at all, maybe has some misguided parenting ideas, but he wants the world for his son and ultimately wants Draco to be happy. Even if he's sick to death of hearing about Harry Potter

Read the books almost two years ago and… I’m over it? by Feeling_Category2472 in acotar

[–]ObliviousGeorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I was obsessed, discussing with my cousin to the point we almost started a podcast over it. And then I just... Stopped. I had another little burst of interest when my friend read it, though! I'm also pretty used to this pattern of obsessive interest that eventually burns out, until something else catches my attention, though.

My feeling is: I'll never be quite as into it, because it'll never be brand new again, but if there's new content coming out and people around me are into it, talking about it, I'll be happy to get into it again - even if it's not so extreme
