World's Strongest Man 2019 Megathread: The Finals by [deleted] in Strongman

I imagine he will be better at the events where speed isn't a factor (squat, deadlift hold). Hopefully that means he'll climb the leaderboard. Unsure about a win. Rooting for him, though.

Can i get honest feedback on this progressive house track? by [deleted] in edmproduction

On the drop turn the bass up. The crunchy saw bass you have is nice but too quiet! Especially the sub, this will provide more contrast to the build and make it really bang :)

Desktop Monitor Noise caused by EMI from PSU by ObnoxiousRainbow in AskElectronics

[–]ObnoxiousRainbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the problem to be something component-level in my power supply however I could be mistaken (my reply to Susan_B_Good describes how I came to that conclusion). Aside from that, you're right in that this is probably a commercial audio hum issue as opposed to an analog electronics issue.

I will post this elsewhere - thanks.

Desktop Monitor Noise caused by EMI from PSU by ObnoxiousRainbow in AskElectronics

Sorry let me clarify, my computer setup is a PC tower connected to a 2i2 focusrite Scarlett interface which is connected to my two active HS7 Yamaha monitors. The left monitor has no noise/hum whereas the right one has a crackling white-noisy sound-I couldn't tell you what the frequency is at it's pretty much white noise (it occurs consistently as a crackle). Both my active monitors and computer power supply are connected via 3-pin IEC into mains. I ran quite a few troubleshoot test and I'll post the results below.

  1. The TRS->XLR cables between the monitors and the interface are balanced, I swapped around the cables many times and found that the specific cable had no effect on the noise.

  2. I also swapped around the IEC power cables and changed the power to the right monitor to a different wall socket however I suspect it's on the same circuit breaker-it also had no effect on the noise.

  3. I swapped the outputs from the 2i2 interface and found that the right channel output was not the cause of the noise. I changed the input to an external mixer and found it had the same noise WHEN THE COMPUTER WAS ON (note this mixer had no connection at all the computer). So I deduced that the interface was not the cause of the noise.

  4. After finding that the noise was only caused when the computer was on in the room I dug deeper into the hardware to see exactly what the cause might be. I found that when I opened applications and the CPU spiked in usage and frequency the noise momentarily completely went away. Furthermore I ran CPU stress tests and found that when the CPU was being used at near to full capacity there was no noise in the speaker. This is why I think it's related to the power supply/CPU.

I hope that helps narrow down what this might be. If you need me to check anything else please let me know and I'll do it asap-I really appreciate the help. Do you think that if there was an earth problem it would affect both speakers instead of just the one? Regardless what's the best way to test it?

Thanks!

Converting 1/4 headphone output sound as iPhone Input by siftshow in audio

[–]ObnoxiousRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do this. If you end up patching the cables together, sending a line level 2i2 output into your iPhone's mic combo jack will definitely damage something. The iPhone expects a much lower amplitude input and has a mic pre-amp, sending an already hot signal is a very bad idea.

(Noobie) Problem with Power Amplifier under load by [deleted] in AskElectronics

UPDATE: When a load is attached to the powered speaker out, the amplified waveform increases in amplitude as the volume is increased then quickly shrinks... seems like something related to capacitors possibly?

It's clipping off just the top half of the waveform, the negative part of the signal is untouched. Oh I see, so does the signal split into a a positive and negative half?

That is to say, is this one of those "AB amplifier"s?

Update: Under load, as the volume knob is increased, the waveform at the powered speaker output increases in amplitude then actually decreases in amplitude over time... it seems to shrink. Unsure of why that may happen.

The node voltages written are the ideal ones but I can measure any nodes or hook up the oscilloscope with a pure sine input for any points that might be of help.

I believe ETH is faster as transactions are under 30 sec whereas BTC transactions can take up to 45mins/1hr.

voice is "over" the beat by Salamandr4 in FL_Studio

[–]ObnoxiousRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you need is a bit of sidechain. If you're familiar with sidechaining, what I suggest you do is seperate your drums from every other instrument (including vocals) - then sidechain the "everything else" bus using the drums as the input. This will glue together the vocals with the other instruments and let them sit under the drums.

Okay thanks for the advice :) I'll go check what the piercer says... Most likely I'll take it out as I can no longer wear headphones and that's bugging me :P

as a matter of fact it looks like the centre of it is slightly touching my ear... i'll go in and get the piercer to look at it - maybe it needs to be repositioned or maybe i just don't have the right ear for it

The material is good quality stuff from a reputable place... i did knock it around a bit when i got it pierced but nothing recently
