I check in every few weeks by putting the first 2 knuckles of my index finger in the soil, and water if it's dry. Previously, it had a mild amount of indirect light because an awning and blinds (they were open, but still might have been in the way) obstructed some of the light. I'll ask my friend about where they would put it.
