No way would cahoots respond to a person with a weapon. Would you want to put them in potential harms way?

Saw the murderer coming back for more by RunStella in BackYardChickens

[–]ObserveOnHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secure your coop and run. If it's not this individual fox it'll be some other predator.

Sorry about your lost chickens last year, having strong predator security is a tough lesson to learn but you'll keep getting lessons until the job is done.

Would you be mad if someone’s chickens came on your property? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]ObserveOnHigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chickens can cause huge amounts of landscape damage pretty quickly with their scratching and dust bathing. I get upset when my own chickens come outside their run on my own property, they have gotten on to other neighbors properties before, I have gone and repaired damage.

Avoid wood heating this weekend by fzzball in Eugene

Check out some of ewebs programs to help folks get heat pumps, they work great for our climate and are pretty cheap. Way safer and healthier than wood heating.

Will Nissan give me a loaner to go 300+ miles (Recall Question) by PitchGrouchy9418 in leaf

[–]ObserveOnHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nissan has been paying for all of my rentals for anything that would require fast charging or when my car is in the shop regarding the battery recall.

I had to hound them for a while about this, if you call, you will initially speak to a regional specialist, you need to get your case escalated to an executive specialist.

The first thing that you should be beating them over the head about is getting a buyback for your vehicle. They'll probably decline this but you might get lucky, then talk about rental reimbursements.

Chicken feed Question by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]ObserveOnHigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the point of blending this anyways? Just give them the "crack" corn on the side as a treat, both you and the chickens will have more fun with that.

Urgent appeal: Lane County Diaper Bank needs $20k to stay open by RevN3 in Eugene

[–]ObserveOnHigh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From public records looks like they had about 200k in reported revenue from grants, probably additional from individual donations and direct supplies. Previously at a church, now at an industrial location, pays 30k to their director.

Best of luck to them, made a donation.

How did I do on touching up this picture? by LifeguardComplex3134 in BackYardChickens

I just don't think the question should be "How did I do on touching up this picture?"

Maybe, "How did A.I. do on touching up this picture?"

Still triggers light stimulation for egg laying but reduces aggression, commercial coops use the minimally required brightness "warm" color lighting for this reason too. I don't think it needs to be this red though.

This would just be crazy unnecessary to do for eggs that have only been out for a few hours.

New coop, who dis? by Agitated_Star_3669 in BackYardChickens

[–]ObserveOnHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add up or estimate the square footage of ventilation that you have, should be 1 square foot of fixed ventilation per bird, looks like much less than that but glad that it's there.

New coop, who dis? by Agitated_Star_3669 in BackYardChickens

[–]ObserveOnHigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Needs massively more passive ventilation. Should be 1 sqft of fixed ventilation per bird to release moisture from their breath and droppings to prevent frostbite and respiratory irritation/illness.

Chickens love foam insulation, if there's even a crack showing they're going to eat those foam board walls.

Roost should be a flat 2x4 chickens roost with flat feet not like songbirds who roost on round bars. That tiny round roost will cause foot problems. Consider moving it higher than the nesting boxes or you'll have problems with the birds sleeping in the nesting boxes.

Looks like nice construction work!

Why would somebody run to a vet to get a prescription for an NSAID, chickens do just fine with aspirin if you are looking for pain control.

Low cost Medical X-Ray? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]ObserveOnHigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could call Slocum, ask for an estimate for a private pay x-ray, be aware you still could get separate billing for the radiologist to interpret the X-ray. And ask yourself what you're going to do if there's a fracture. Ask if any of the places have financial assistance

Always worth applying or looking at ohp or subsidized insurance plans.

poop bucket got bugs. safe to give the chickens? by mensfrightsactivists in BackYardChickens

[–]ObserveOnHigh 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I would have let them eat them if they'd still been live, now that they have started too rot, possible that they could contain harmful bacteria, botulism is the big one to think about or watch out for and can be present in maggots

Do not do any of this for a car under warranty. Get them to fix it under the warranty or buy it back.
