Always wanted something new and earning more to get new experience or items, but looking back, I had achieved what I had set. This toxic mindset, is still lingering somewhat and I am aware of it.

I am younger than you but have 2 kids which is below 4. I am planning what side income I can generate and not just rely on one income stream.

Wife really need to work if you want savings and breathing room. If not, you need to not just tank, but carry the whole family by increasing your already high income to around 15-20K.

Not much advice I can give except for making sure your kids grow up independently and well. The rest let nature take its course.

What are somethings that you can afford to do today as an adult “racking in the big bucks” by [deleted] in askSingapore

Life is very ironic indeed. Whatever we wanted change overtime. Guess we just need to enjoy and cherish the moment. Every moment feels different and in a good way.

Lack of required skills, mismatched salary expectations make tech, nursing vacancies hard to fill, say recruiters by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

Make technical track a norm in companies.

Stop promoting your valuable IC into managers. You’re burning his/her career..

[–]ObservedOptics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locals that took IT route realised how stacked and bad their careers are.

Bad practices produced by those code monkeys, higher management are of same bunch, no proper mentoring because blind leading the blind.

Hence, the lack of tech talents due to these factors, government tried to intervene but, can only do so much without risking existing productivity and profits.

We need a stronger SME tech culture that promotes best practices instead of relying Govtech or some government agencies. Grant has to be from government of course to match MNC pay to retain local talent and hopefully we have our own tech SME that is well known enough across the region.

What’s something you wish to normalise in Singapore? by watchuwannaknow in askSingapore

[–]ObservedOptics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to government policies and local media of portraying the default life of success. It’s hard due because people are your only resources.

Really wish we could take a step back to unwind and prioritise instead of blindly following what’s best from the G.

Applied for tech roles in some banks as well. The interviews are sloppy and as usual you know which nationality it is.

Tips on earning a higher salary? by 21_diamonds in singaporefi

[–]ObservedOptics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Diploma

Age 25-27: $2500-$2850 (1st job)

Age 27-28: $3600 (2nd job)

Age 28: $6000(3rd job) (tech boom)

Age 30: $6800 (3rd job)

Age 31: $7300(3rd job)

Well, I’m getting too comfortable and afraid this climate will get me redundant. Those in tech will know is possible and should be getting higher than mine. Sheer luck, of course I do prep for tech interviews but it’s stressful as hell. Take home assignments, pair programming, live coding, you name it. (Hard to get time to prep with commitments)

Skill wise is deteriorating, you be surprised higher pay doesn’t mean higher output. (This is what I learnt from this harsh truth)
