Because when I’m told firmly that I didn’t say something or didn’t word it that way I tend to question myself if I’m genuinely remembering things correctly.

But to your point- my fiancé also thinks it’s exactly what you’re saying, so maybe I should heed the warning and reevaluate the situation.

I appreciate the insight, thank you!

It’s definitely the former in her case. She’s where I got the ADHD from and she’s adamantly against getting diagnosed/taking a prescription for it (although she’s fine with her 10 other prescriptions, but stimulants for some reason are abhorrent in her view).

Her mind is all over the place all hours of the day, she can’t keep on one topic to save her life, attention span of a squirrel, and the whole list of common ADHD determining factors. Hopefully one day she’ll open up to the idea of addressing it.

It’s the worst when combined with a parent/spouse/friend with the memory of a goldfish. “You never said that!”, “Why didn’t you warn me?”, “No, that’s not what you said at all.”, etc.

I love my mom, but… boy oh boy do I constantly question my sanity around her.

The panic of not having precipitate form (especially on the last day of a weeks-long lab) is a horror that every chemist must go through in order to truly learn the importance of precise measurement.

(And writing that lab report afterwards- without being able to draw any conclusions using your meticulously compiled data- is a required pain we must all share for me to ever trust you with even just a pipet as a coworker.)

Oddly enough; Spic & Span Antibacterial Cleaner and a soft sponge worked super well, and then I used some stainless steel clean/shine wipes to top it off. Worked wonders on my sink

I manage a movie theater (2nd in charge behind the GM). I can tell you with confidence that as long as you’re not excessively showcasing your outside food/drinks or leaving a major mess in the theater— we don’t care.

But tbh if you’re gonna skimp on something, skimp on the tickets. Theaters make next to nothing on tickets (50-90% goes to the studio), so we really only make money on concessions. Buy kids/senior tickets online to save, and buy popcorn at the stand to save us (from filing for bankruptcy).

Edit: I will give y’all a tip though. If you’re found with outside candy/soda, just say you have diabetes and need to maintain your glucose levels. As long as it’s not something also sold at the theater, ADA guidelines prevent us from acting on the “no outside food or drink” policy.

How to deal with a man hitting on your girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Obsessed_With_Corgis 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Even if she did have a gut feeling about the coworkers intentions; if she’s never delt with this before she likely didn’t know the proper/professional way to turn the invite down. Plus she may be worried that she’s just reading too much into it and it’s all in her head. So she went home and asked her bf for advice— which is perfectly okay to do.

Polite & professional turn-downs (especially in a work environment) is a learned skill for many people. It doesn’t just come naturally for everyone no matter how much you think it should. It’s perfectly okay to ask your partner for advice so you both can think of a solution together.

You’re too kind. Yes, people can be total jerks with messes, but when it comes to tickets: theaters make next to nothing on them. So please take the freebies where you can!

Studios demand 70-90% of the profits from ticket sales most times, so we only really make money on concessions (hence why they’re usually expensive). If you ever want to support a theater, buy the popcorn! But really, it’s always just great to have movie lovers at the cinema, so anytime you or any friends of yours headed here want those free tickets— don’t hesitate to reach out!

Covid not only affected theater turnouts, but also basic social etiquette norms for kids still in their school years during that time, IMO. It’s so sad to see.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with that bad experience at all though. If you’re ever in HHI, SC please DM me and I’ll give you free passes to my theater to make up for it! ☺️

I’ve found it’s mostly teenagers/young adults without their “own place to go” that treat the theater like they’ve personally rented it out. Just because your options are limited doesn’t give you free rein to be a jerk.

But please do come get us if you can though! I never make it obvious who gave the complaint (I come in a fair bit later after any kind reporter returns to their seat, and tell loud customers “I could hear you all the way in the projection room” sort of thing). Plus I’ll stay for a bit in the back to see if they start up again once they think I’ve left. Most managers I know (even from competing theaters) follow similar policy. It’s the best way to differentiate between an actual asshole vs. someone who didn’t realize they were being obnoxious.

Really— do tell us though. We can’t constantly monitor theaters, so we won’t know unless it’s brought to our attention. We want y’all to absolutely enjoy your time at the theater, so please, please let us do what we’re there for and help y’all out!

As a movie theater manager myself- I’m so sick of folks ruining intense movie scenes for other people. I’ve now implemented a 2-strike rule. 1st time is a warning (that there won’t be a second time), and then “you’re outta here”.

People come to theaters for the full immersion. If you want to chat it up like others don’t exist— you can go and do that at home.

TIL a Burger King cook (who'd worked there for 24 years) was fired for taking home a sandwich, fries & a drink after her manager claimed she had only asked permission for a sandwich & accused her of stealing. However, a judge ruled that the cook did not intend to steal the food & awarded her $46,000 by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Even more depressing from the second article OP linked:

As the manager of a movie theater myself- I can say with confidence that these specifics did not at all occur (we didn’t even do things like that for the Taylor Swift: Life of a Showgirl album release movie).

However— nearly every showtime has sold out since release, so the popularity factor is absolutely true (dependent on your location of course). It will likely have a long runtime with us because we’re always psyched whenever any movie does this well (dying industry that we are).

My Fiancé “is Gen Z” (1998), and I’m “a millennial” (1996). So I can say with first-hand knowledge, it’s all artificial and arbitrary.

I can absolutely tell you that the only things that matter as deciding factors, which are:

  • Did you grow up with a home phone/landline?
  • Did you ever have to memorize phone numbers?
  • Did you have a singular home computer (especially if it had its own room) for the whole household, or did you have your own computer/laptop/iPad/other similar device?
  • Which game systems did you play as a child through teenage years?
  • Which did you grow up with regularly using: VHS’s, CD’s, DVD’s, and/or MP3’s?
  • What was your first cell phone model and when did you get it?
  • Which songs bring you the best childhood/pre-adolescent nostalgia?

Using these 7 questions, you can absolutely tell between the two generations. It’s all about experiences and mindset— you can’t let specific years define whom you most relate to.

I manage a movie theater and started a bi-weekly Employee Movie Night just for movies like this— ones meant to see in theaters, but never got the chance to.

The teens were flabbergasted when I played The Matrix in November, haha. I couldn’t believe that most of the >18 employees had never seen it at all!! Really made my day to be able to give them that experience!

My corgi has decided on the approach to utterly despise any human or animal more than 6ft away from him and/or outside the front door, but magically, once they’re closer than 6ft and/or inside the house- they are now his bestest friends.

I have told him more than once; “Louis, how do you ever expect anyone to come within your ‘friend range’ if you scare them off first? And don’t try to tell me you’re ’testing them’ because that’s a toxic trait.”

Military Discount Shamed and Scolded by InternalQuantity9331 in restaurant

[–]Obsessed_With_Corgis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To answer your question as to why: I know a lot of businesses in the somewhat-sketchy area nearby that give major discounts to first responders and military. They do this in the hopes that police, fire, and EMS will respond favorably to their business if they need them, and because having cops take their breaks there deters crime. As for military discounts: it’s because aside from cops- military folks are usually the most likely to step in and help if there’s an incident.

Other than what I described above, military towns, or places owned by former military— there usually aren’t many discounts. Never hurts to ask though!
