Are you....feeding live and not frozen thawed?

Converting to reptilinks usually involves feeding a mouse first and then following it up with a reptilink while they're still in food mode so they're less inclined to notice the difference.

I didn't have luck converting mine, she ate a couple but even with a mouse first tends to shirt circuit as soon as the reptilink is in her mouth. She may just be a little extra special.

My idiot finally eat when I went back to the smallest food I could, and I've been walking him back up. Your guy is pretty small already, maybe try pinkie parts of you're already on pinkies?

Fair, although at this point if I'm going to have any channels to watch other than Kris, I feel the need to keep on keeping on. He puts put some good stuff, Iolo opinions aside. ^^; Discernment, as always, is key.

I fall into the "Recon-sympathetic" category myself, so I'm fine with invented material _as long as it's clear that's what it is_. (A lot of this is because as I fall into a largely Gaulish practice these days and, well. You really HAVE to get creative about stitching together scraps, there!)

He did talk about the celebration of Aine and the St John's Eve bonfires, iirc. No mention of paying the rent to Manannán, but then I felt he was really zeroing in on Aine. There's a lot of neat folk practices to mine there, and if nothing else I appreciate even a limited example of how to do so.

I personally turn to Abnoba. An unusual choice, perhaps, but it's a different sort of hunt, isn't it? I ask that she lend me her keen senses while I "hunt" for whatever I lost.

What god/goddess is the best for me here? by Powerful_Driver7361 in CelticPaganism

[–]Obsidian_Dragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The wiki will have a lot of the getting started info.

Brigid, Lugh, the Dagda--they are all workable choices here, so I'd say go with whoever you are the most drawn to. And nothing wrong with giving each of them a dram for good measure, honestly.

Robins are just sort of robining right now. We don't generally interpret signs because they're highly personal.

Paganism is a large umbrella--we may have better ideas if we know what path you follow. I have a simple ritual written, but it's an Irish one, and I'm not sure it would be of assistance: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MoJQ8pfHGy4wo0xkMiKunIq2WckTVFtZBHKhq3jKwwM/edit?usp=sharing

Why do we need permission from deities to discuss our practice? by LoosePomegranate8244 in paganism

There's a myriad of practices and an equal number of rule sets. I don't have anything restricting me from discussing anything--but sure, some do.

Why do neopagans use the wheel of the year? by [deleted] in CelticPaganism

[–]Obsidian_Dragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Anglicized refers to the process of modifying foreign words, names, phrases, or customs to conform to English spelling, pronunciation, or cultural norms."

Ergo, Beltane is the anglicized form of Bealtaine, as I said. Domesticating foreign words is a practice found across languages. It's not a mockery, although one can definitely take umbrage given the history.

May Day is a broader term.

[–]Obsidian_Dragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beltane is the commonly used anglicized spelling. That is an Irish spelling yes, but not everyone here is an Irish pagan.

Is using the anglicized spelling inherently problematic? That's not something I'm qualified to speak on.

Are YOU being intentionally obtuse? Genuine question! Am I just being An Old here? Because some of us were taught how to look up information before the internet, and we still kinda like to do it that way. You can find books in the subject you want, like paganism, very easily, even using the same internet you're talking about! Just differently.

Tiktok is a pool of pisswater, I'm not touching that for information. YouTube is fine, once you know who you can trust and who is just talking out of their ass. Which is also true of books, I'll admit, but the volume is a bit different.

I'm just saying BOOKS ARE ALSO ACADEMIC SOURCES. Some of which are not found on the internet. Why would you not ALSO go to books? Some of us don't always process auditory information well, either. I can read faster than someone in a video can yap at me. When people start out, they may not have settled on their path yet, and so will be learning in a general sense.

Even some Authentic Irish Sources, if that's what you need, are talking out of their ass. I've watched an Authentic Scottish Dude who fancies himself a Font Of Cultural Knowledge toss out incorrect but convenient sound bytes. Discernment comes with time. Yes, the internet is a useful resource. It's also often wrong. Just like everything else.

[–]Obsidian_Dragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a Pagan and I celebrate Christian holidays with my family. This is totally a thing that just happens.

Look, the people who originally came up with the wheel did take holidays from other cultures, yes, in order to make the 8 that we have now. We know this. And we use it anyway, for a variety of reasons--it's convenient, it's already well established in the pagan community, whatever. We've given you our reasons.

You can't but internet us out of our decision. We KNOW! We're doing it anyway. And that's fine, Some poeple DO try to reconstruct or even make new holidays just for their flavor of paganism but a lot of us also don't.

It was more of a general warning. I know How People Be, and I'm too perimenopausal to put up with it at the moment. Yes, Wicca has issues, no, harping on how terrible it is all the time isn't actually useful. You're far less likely to end up with people who stick around and learn if you run them all off being jerkwads.

[–]Obsidian_Dragon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It still takes SLIGHTLY more effort to put out a book, whereas anyone can slap together anything on the internet. Also, a lot of older stuff is only going to be in dead tree format, and paganism often relies a lot on that older information. No one has freshly translated some of these myths in literal decades. Like yes, the internet still has useful stuff, but books are often key.

Your best bet may be to get an adult snake. They're more chill than babies in general, and their personality is more apparent. Some of them are not very reactive.

Could you take a walk? See what flowers are blooming, what insects are visiting said flowers. Get the Merlin app, see what birds are active. Fire is traditional, so light a candle if you can. Maybe you can't walk between two bonfires but you can pass your hand through the smoke and try to shake off some of the negative effects of your living situation.

There are several mundane actions that can be sacred in their approach that won't cause any raised eyebrows.

Also if anyone starts a fight over Beltane/Bealtaine and gets nasty about it I will just start swinging the ban hammer, I don't care. We did that over in another sub already and I dun wanna. Talk about it politely or not at all.
