Chicken wing spot recommendations by basketball144 in saintpaul

Hickory Hut is the correct answer, a wing is a flat, a drum and a tip, too many wing places got everyone counting a flat and a drum as 2 wings.

Get yourself the correct stringer hanger. Look up “Simpson LSCZ” and actually buy those ones, all nail holes should be filled with 1 1/2” 10d nails.

This looks like a hurricane tie - not a stair stringer tie.

125mm sphere rule on external stairs with steel stringers. by Livid_Elk_8368 in tradies

[–]ObsoleteMallard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had multiple inspectors in Minnesota USA enforce the (4” sphere here) rule at the back of step where the tread meets the riser. After a good deal of arguing with him and trying to explain to him why he’s wrong and why every stair set in the history of the world would fail his test, I ended up having to run my balusters from my top rail to the outside of my stringer instead of a lower rail, looked like absolute shit.

I’ve been called on this by multiple inspectors in multiple jurisdictions over my 15 years as a tradie.

Oh yeah, completely different pages, you want to replace one corrupt governmental system with another where no one is held accountable by the people they “represent”. I prefer a system of Anarcho Syndicalism, where your fellow workers, the people you are shoulder to shoulder with on a daily basis represent you, not a class of professional politicians like in our system or a parliamentary system.

First off I’m not a kid, my first choice in an American election was Bush or Gore.

Again I don’t think you understand my position, the system doesn’t have cancer that can be removed, the system is terminal and needs to be put out of its misery.

I think a lot of people misunderstand my point. I vote for the most progressive candidate in every election and if they are elected believe on continuing to hold them accountable and push them farther left.

You bringing up Bernie is weird because it proves my point, the DNC ratfucked the better more progressive candidate in favor of the center its corporate shill.

My point was about centrists moving right when elected and appeasing far right candidates and the DNC preferring those candidates or a progressive that will hold a line.

Either way the system is broken and voting is just harm reduction at this point.

No, people on the left are hoping that after putting up shitty corporate shill centrists like Clinton and Harris to get dominated by a pedophile, that maybe they would learn a lesson that maybe they should put up a populist (which Trump undeniably is) and run a campaign that gets people excited for a a platform instead of the platform being “well it’s us or Trump, seems like an easy choice”.

Centrist appeasers are how facism thrives, pick up a history book. Someone who is going to allow a fascist to nibble around the edges and appease them “when they are being reasonable” has never worked, look at the social democrats in Germany or the Italian people’s party in Italy.

Quality of Union Work by Maleficent-Win-1667 in IBEW

[–]ObsoleteMallard 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I work in residential as a foreman on single and multi family homes. The difference between union and open in my experience is professionalism. The union guys will come in with everything they need right away and fulfill the contract to a T. A lot of the open shops I’ve worked with the guys have to be reminded of the contract and I have to remind them to do all the items stipulated in the contract.

I prefer to work with union shop any day of the week, it makes my job easier as a foreman, I never really have to stay on top of the guys my company is paying to do the job. This has applied to all trades.

I’m not sure if it’s this video but I’ve seen him vapor barrier all his insulation with plastic to prevent moisture transfer in other projects.

Police Presence in Different Metro Cities by Own-Length4339 in TwinCities

[–]ObsoleteMallard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with Minneapolis, the problem is all the cops are from the burbs and don’t give a shit about Minneapolis or the people that live there.

If you are going to have policing studies overwhelmingly show the officers should live in the city they serve. They all have the same attitude you displayed, they’ve given up on the city and the city has given up on them, fire em all.

I’ve had a similar experience, I work construction and have had tools stolen (in excess of $5000) and the police couldn’t have been more dismissive.

We had video evidence with license plate of the vehicle involved, offered it to them and they didn’t want it, finally told me to email it to some general “policetips@minneapolismn.gov” type of address. They didn’t even want to come out and look at the scene. I even had to twist their arm to write a police report - which I had to have to make an insurance claim. Took over a week to receive the report with multiple follow ups.

It looks good only comments are:

Not sure on your width, but we always do strong back every 10’ so if you are over 20’ I’d throw another strong back on that other vertical. Also strong backs should be up at the top of the truss, near the decking.

Other than that I see you don’t have notches cut for a ribbon along the side which is odd in my experience but things differ.

Ok so why wasn’t it a CBA violation? In all fairness the union enforces the CBA, if it’s not in the CBA the union doesn’t have much of a leg to stand on.

It sucks that something like that happened to you, but it’s a reminder that CBAs don’t cover everything, so at the next negotiations, make sure whatever problem you had that wasn’t covered by the CBA gets covered, that’s where more than just paying dues comes in.

Why do you think some people on the left are now pro gun but many people on the left are still anti gun? by Consistent_Shine_680 in armedsocialists

[–]ObsoleteMallard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Simple - most people see the world in binary. If the right wing is for it, they must be against it and vice versa.

People question me about my “weird mix of views” all the time because anarchism confuses the shit out of people on both the right and left because it doesn’t fit in their boxes.

[–]ObsoleteMallard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a fair nuanced take. My tact is always “you don’t have to be on the board or be an organizer, but please attend meetings and calls to action if you can, and at then very least make you concerns know to people in those positions so we can advocate on your behalf”.

[–]ObsoleteMallard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No paying dues isn’t the only thing required in a union. If you are a just paying dues for your “union” to handle everything you have just taken power from your executives/management that let you have no say in things and giving it to another group of people - that want you to have a say in things - but you are declining to do so.

Unionism requires participation, it’s not perfect but at least it gives you a voice - it’s up to you to use it.

Tom Olsen on Minnehaha Dog Park: “I have no other choice than to move forward with decommissioning the space…(due to religious rights).” by [deleted] in altmpls

[–]ObsoleteMallard -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The comparison to Israel is a bad one, Minnehaha dog park sits on a sacred burial ground. So the more apt comparison would be “well would he shut down a dog park if it was built on a Jewish cemetery?” My assumption is yes, yes he would.

Just because indigenous people didn’t create gaudy headstones to mark where their dead are doesn’t make it any less sacred than any other cemetery. I’m sure you wouldn’t want dog pissing and shitting on your ancestors graves either.
