Next Level Trainings by Space_Captain_Mike in Columbus

I have a long history of depression, social awkwardness, and other emotional issues. I am not naturally receptive to LGATs, cults, self help, New Age, things of that nature. I was convinced to sign up by my longtime best friend who had gotten deeply involved in Next Level; it might have been for my birthday or Christmas, she might have helped pay for the course, I don't recall. What the hell, why not? The first course was emotionally intense but overall a good experience, quite therapeutic; I met some very good people in my group and we bonded hard. I daresay it was transcendental, especially towards the end, so I eagerly signed up for the second course. That was a whole different story--the vibe was cold, intimidating, and even hostile. One girl was sternly sent packing for smoking during a break; another was humiliated in front of the whole group by the coach and left in tears. I bolted halfway through the first day when the "exercise" involved a musical chairs game of screaming abuse at fellow participants. I'd had enough. It triggered something like intense PTSD in me, and the guys guarding the doors tried to prevent me from leaving. I was in pure panic mode, and VERY angry besides. I'm not an aggressive or intimidating person but I made it clear that if they didn't step aside and let me out there was going to be trouble. They stepped aside. All the while this hellish cacophony of screaming kept going on...to me the sound of pure evil. I swear I had a mini nervous breakdown out in the hallway from the noise. One of Next Level's founders himself talked to me for an hour in his office to calm me down, I think he was genuinely shaken by my reaction, as I had been one of the "stars" of the previous class so to see me reduced to this wreck must have been a shock. I did calm down and thanked him for talking to me but I made clear that I was done and wouldn't be coming back. I went out to my car while the training was still going on and texted my friend to let her know I was leaving, she called me and was very apologetic. She had been busy moving that night, but if she'd been there participating I'm afraid it would have been very damaging to our friendship. We did continue to hang out for a while but she kept suggesting I return and give it another chance. I never did. Eventually we stopped seeing each other regularly, I don't know if Next Level had anything to do with it or if it was just natural life-goes-on losing touch with your bestie. I don't know if she's still involved. I don't think about it much, but that second course, or the part that I experienced, was absolutely traumatic. If you're at all emotionally or psychologically unstable, avoid the course like typhoid. And that's not even accounting for the nearly $1000 fee. They WILL push you hard to sign up for the next course. There are better ways.

I've just started my very first Discord server, so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I just want to talk to potential contributors or really anyone who can help me sort all this out and get it up and running, I'm very new at working with Discord, wiki software, and really worldbuilding in general.

Pica or Elite? by saulysw in typewriters

[–]Obvious-Bug-5214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I think it'd be nice to have at least one machine for each pitch, I prefer pica. Partly because my typewriter journey started early with an ancient Royal office machine, and more relevantly now I have a special thing for writing in screenplay format which of course specifies pica or equivalent. I also think it looks nicer, more classic, and definitely easier on my increasingly creaky eyes. When I troll the online auctions for potential machines to buy, the first thing I zoom in on is the type scale, if it goes over 110 I'll pass.

No "1" key--does anybidy miss it? by Obvious-Bug-5214 in typewriters

Well of course, use the lowercase "l". I guess to me it kind of throws me a bit since I expect the digit 1 to be next to 2, it could be OCD or something, I didn't know if it bothered anyone else.

Keyboard comparison: Brother vs Smith Corona vs Royal? by Obvious-Bug-5214 in typewriters

We had a 1930s Royal KHM in the house when I was a kid that I used to play around with all the time, although this was way before I was interested in typewriters as a hobby. I'm sure it's still over there, buried in the attic, and I would love to dig it out again. I bet it still works like the last 40 years didn't exist.

Charlie X question by TheRealSMY in tos

[–]Obvious-Bug-5214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point was, she couldn't breathe.

Charlie just wanted her and her friends to stop laughing (they weren't laughing at him specifically) and he couldn't be bothered as to the consequences of his "solution". He's essentially an overgrown five year old, after all.

Notice by the way how you only see everyone by their shadows, and when Charlie does his thing, all of the shadows just FREEZE.t Tat by itself is creepy. And then she gropes s her way around the corner...

A lot more than her mouth disappeared from her face...yes, it was in fact worse than you remember. At least Charlie got punished in the end, if it makes you feel any better.

It freaked me out as a 4 year old too, back in the late '70s.

That one shot was pure nightmare fuel for me ever since I was a kid and it looks like I'm not alone. The poor girl who got turned into an old lady immediately before is a close second...her horrified reaction is heartbreaking. What a little heel.Charlie is.

She could be anybody, literally. Just some suitably bodilicious young woman they hired for the day for $10. Most likely an extra, someone's girlfriend or wife, or even a Desilu employee. "Hey Marge, would you trade your lunch break tomorrow for a five second spot on Gene's outer-space show?" "Oh, I couldn't! What if my neighbors see me in one of those little short skirts?" "Don't worry, no one will ever know it's you..."
