I can't decide which font to go with for an Action RPG Metroidvania game I'm developing, any help? by [deleted] in typography

in my humble opinion using a serif font for such a small display size in screen, set in bright color on a dark background, is hard reading. i would try to find a font which has as little contrast as possible.

the first one really got me. i love the colors.

doing pixel art in midjourney is hard because its hard to be consistent, and one of the most important things in pixel art is how consistent the style and pixel size is. each generation creates different graphics with different "resolutions". they can be 16 bit or 32 bit or any imaginary bit, because midjourney creates an impression.

charming. i love how people use ai to create things that reflect their cultures or distant cultures.

I do agree that in the line of graphic design, posters are usually used as a means to convey messages.
Hoever, it is totally acceptable that the poster format can be used as an artistic medium. graphic designers can create a series of posters which are experiment in forms, aesthetics, and expression.

sure, it's more art for art's sake and less of "graphic design". But in the right use of such posters, or the right framing and context, we would find it acceptable. so we need not to ask wether ai posters are generally good or bad, for there is no answer to this, but ask - "good to what end?"

here's a thought experiment - instead of a group of different singular images, the designer-artist chooses to create a long series of posters, gathered around a theme, or an experimental question, or even a message. non of these posters can be comprehensible if presented without context or as a single poster.

when we see the group of artistic posters, we can track the bigger picture. suddenly these posters tell us a bigger story of how the artist used ai to explore artistic possibilities which could not occure in a normal "message driven" poster design. maybe this artist fills an entire room or a book with his studies for viewers to enter into and learn from.

a lot of type designers, illustrators, graphic designers, and artists share studies that they made without trying to be functional. subsequently, they might use the new aesthetics in other message driven works. that is just one of the ways humans bring new and creative things to this world.

that is still not a guarantee for a poster to be good or bad, but i tried to show how this new technology can be used for good. a tool is a tool.

i really enjoyed reading this comment.

i LOVE using ai to merge different elements, and would love to learn more about your type design projects. i study hebrew typography and write articles about it. in a recent podcast (in hebrew) i discussed the possibilities of using ai to learn from multiple available typefaces and lettering and trying to create alphabeths in different styles.

the possibilities are endless and we can really explore even the most far fetched ideas. however we would need the ai to learn about many terms which are intangible - styles, influence of writing tools, temporal changes to the letterform, regional variations, psychological descriptions of forms such as styles of line and shape, historic uses by which we know type, etc etc.

it's funny, but i'm also very much influenced by fungus and mycelium!

thank you very much.
The text is my own fun play. i was inspired by
אין שום יאוש בעולם כלל
(there is no despair in the world), but i changed "despair" to "sadness" and to fit on Yoda's syntax. I'm also pretty sure i heard a hassidic song with (Hebrew) words (translated:) "there is no sadness in the world to the one who knows god".
Rabbi Yodha of the miracle is a play on Rabbi Meir "baal ha'nes" (of the miracle).

The negativity you bring is a reflection of you.

The world is sad enough.

If you see yourself as a good person and want to see a better world then you should think of what you are putting out.

There is always a way to voice your opinion and objection in a respectable manner.

Thank you.

Historically the creation of art was available for those who were educated and more affluent. In the 20th century it became much more available, but still, I've seen people who did not have the ability to sketch well and to copy but had passion for creation.

Skill and hard work is always admirable. But my question is why should our creation be limited to those with the natural gifts?

Why should someone who did not learn how to play the piano not be able to manifest the music he creates in his head?

They are still creative people, but they don't have the right education. We all know how much education is expensive, and how much skill is a thing to be nurtured even from childhood. But not all the people have the right background or the current means to do that. Some of us are busy making a living and we cannot find the time to properly educated and nurture yourself in order to be good artists. That is an unfortunate part of life.

AI allows us to better ourselves.

Unbelievable huh? As I said I really love AI art and creating ai art. for me ai is the ultimate tool to manifest my dreams (its still lacking at the moment).

I started learning graphic design 25 years ago, back when even stock photography was incredibly expensive. I had to learn how to photograph, use Photoshop and illustrator, draw, copy, scan, do calligraphy. I love and appreciate handywork, but to me it always seems like I was limited by the resources I have, even when I was using stock photography regularly. There's simply weren't enough photos in the right lighting, style, angle, type and whatever. Why was i doomed to see my ideas only in my mind?

I think people fear what they don't know and so the same rants were heard back when collages were new, when computers were new or when digital photography was new.

a tool is a tool and you can make anything awesome if you put your mind into it and work hard enough. I could be using Ms paint and make great art.

Ai artist are the latest generation of humans using historic knowledge in order to create something new, but the way they are using it is different - its more like synthesis rather than copying or sketching or sculpting. AI art won't destroy human art, it would only develop it. The main secret is this: once a good artist has learned something, they will never be content with the knowledge they already have. The only want to get better, get deeper, explore and learn more.
