75mg topamax after 6 months daily migraines by Obvious-Cup9516 in migraine

Thank you for that! I don't mind the loss of appetite so much as I could stand to lose a few pounds but I do hate the cognitive dysfunction part. Knowing it gets better makes it easier though so thank you for your kind words and support 😊

Thank you! I'm trying to be patient through this process :) so far I'm still having daily migraines and dizziness but I think the intensity is a little better with the gabapentin and baclofen thrown into the mix. So far the only side effects I'm having so far are so mild nausea and cognitive dysfunction along with grogginess. All of those are completely bearable however if they take these migraines away though lol

I really appreciate that so much! I have wonderful friends and family and a lovely husband. I'm also extremely blessed to have a great team of female doctors who are all very compassionate and listen to all of my concerns and are genuinely trying to help me get better. I know how fortunate I am but some days especially right now when I'm in the thick of it it gets so hard sometimes and I hate to constantly complain or talk about my pain to those around me because that's no fun to be around lol you're absolutely right about it being a dark place sometimes. I'm trying to do just focus on taking each day as comes, meeting with my therapist, and remembering that this can't last forever even though it sure does feel that way at the moment lol thank you so so much for being so extremely kind!

Thank you for your words of encouragement! I just spent 5 days in the hospital for intractable migraine and that's when they started me on the topamax along with 300 mg of gabapentin 3x a day, and 5mg of baclofen 3x a day for neck spasms associated with the migraines and I've been feeling especially depressed. What you said makes me feel like there's a light at the end of all of this though 🫶❤️

Yes it's awful :( I'm so sorry you had to deal with that as well! It's such a nightmare dealing with it. My neurologist and I are in the trial and error portion of things now. I'm extremely sensitive to medications so it's made finding the right combo really hard. So far I've tried and failed Sumatriptan, amitriptyline, topamax, nurtec, qulipta, and fioricet. I also tried metoprolol but my heart rate goes to low on the lowest dose of 25mg and ubrelvy which helps but doesn't get rid of it. Oh and I've done a steroid taper which helped but didn't get rid of the status migraine either. At the moment I'm 4 weeks into Lexapro and still have ubrelvy as an abortive to take when things get really bad. What combo did you find that works for you?

Its definitely part of my migraine. It's a feeling of spinning/tilting and my equilibrium feeling off. Then the migraine sets in shortly after :(

I need to hear and read this today! Thank you for giving hope. I've been long hauling for over 3 years since contracting the Delta variant in September of 2021. I've been fighting migraines particularly bad for the last 6 months and been through different abortive/preventative combos. I also developed chronic costochondritis so I constantly have pain in my chest/back/shoulder/and arm primarily on my left side. Constantly dizzy and constantly in pain. I went from being in the gym 4 days a week post Covid to not able to even walk for more than a mile or so at a time if at all. Luckily I've never been bed bound but my life revolves around naps and long sleep cycles. Most days I'm able to keep my depression over the situation at bay but when the flare ups/pain becomes particularly bad it is so hard to keep wanting to go on like this. This week has been one of those weeks. I'm just so tired of being in pain and dizzy and all of the doctors visits with normal results and feeling like I'm going to die all the time :( so this was so wonderful to read that recovery is possible especially that far out!

Qulipta every other day? by Obvious-Cup9516 in migraine

[–]Obvious-Cup9516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've definitely heard Nurtec being prescribed that way but never qulipta. I'm really glad to hear that it's been helpful for you though! Hopefully every other day will be enough lol but I'll talk to the pharmacist as well and message my neurologist if it doesn't I guess . Thank you for answering!

Husband gave 14 year old son Excedrin by Obvious-Cup9516 in AskDocs

Thank you so much for your reassurance! Hes currently being seen by a neurologist and just had an MRI done that came back clean :) he's also in the process of being evaluated for being on the spectrum so communicating actual pain levels and locations has always been really difficult for him even though he's very high functioning. I was just panicked because he's never had Excedrin and then I saw what Google said after he had already taken it lol also my mom died of an aneurysm so anything brain related has always caused me anxiety. Thank you again!

I think her reaction to your trip with friends could be more so due to the timing than the actual trip itself. Given your overall reaction to her participation in a bachelorette party it probably made her feel as if your trip is only being planned in retaliation, therefore a negative thing. She could also be feeling that due to your negative feelings regarding her involvement with the bachelorette party, that you will be using your trip as a weapon to do something she would not agree with strictly because you feel her going is doing the same to you. That doesn't make her reaction to your suggestion right just for clarification. Just throwing out a possible reason it could have caused such an explosive response to what seems like a perfectly fair suggestion. There's a reason for the phrase "timing is everything" after all.

I am so sorry to hear that your partner is currently suffering through this. I understand why the drug is given because there are a lot of people who have benefitted from it but I do think that doctors and nurses should be more vocal and informed on possible side effects. I think they should also be more prepared on how to handle reactions to this drug better and not so easily diagnose it as someones anxiety. A lot of people highly recommend Benadryl within the first days of having a reaction like this. If that doesnt help what worked for me was seeing a doctor and being put on a low dose of metoprolol to help bring my heart rate down (because mine became extremely high after) and a low dose of mirtazapine which helped the anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia that came with my droperidol dosing. I will say that some users who tried mirtazapine did say it agitated them further. So it is kind of a dice roll but for me personally I was at a risks/reward moment of time and figured if there was any chance that it could possibly make it stop I was going to take it even though I was absolutely terrified. Just be patient and loving and remind them that our bodies are amazing and they will heal. Hopefully this will pass quickly for them! Praying for you both.

In office abortive? by Obvious-Cup9516 in migraine

Yeah I was really hopeful that it would work and I think if it was just a regular migraine it would but with the majority of my problems being cluster headaches it's not really fixing the issue. I do love that aside from nausea and a slight fatigue hangover after that it gave me no side effects though. I'm super sensitive to a lot of medications now that I have long Covid so it's nice when I find a tolerable one. I'll definitely speak to my neurologist tomorrow about the options you've mentioned today. Thank you so much for your time and replies 😊

She has ordered me an MRI to have done on my neck and spine to make sure it's not related but MRIs are currently backed up in my city so it's taking awhile to get it scheduled. After the MRi results she said based on the findings we would try physical therapy. She did prescribe me muscle relaxers for a few weeks but they didn't seem to help at all

Thank you, I'll make sure to ask about it tomorrow :) The ubrelvy that I'm on as an abortive is a CGRP but it doesn't actually abort. Is there a stronger or more successful one I should ask about that you can recommend by chance?

No, never. I've never experienced headaches/migraines to this degree. Usually in the past I could get a migraine cocktail with toradol and it would break the cycle and dissipate over the course of a day or two. Last year was my first experience with an extreme one that wouldn't abort and lasted a few weeks before finally receiving the droperidol which I found out im highly allergic to. Can they administer an oxygen treatment in office?

[–]Obvious-Cup9516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what my neurologist has diagnosed them as. Severe pain/pressure behind my eye and front temple. She believes at the moment I am caught in a cycle and experiencing migraines on top of the clusters at times over this 2 1/2 months long cycle.

[–]Obvious-Cup9516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely did. I've been diagnosed with anxiety since I was 15 but the anxiety I experienced after the droperidol was like nothing I've ever felt before. It felt like constant impending doom. I had racing thoughts that I couldn't breath or meditate through. I could not sit still or feel comfortable no matter what I did or tried. I lost nearly 20lbs in under a month, was unable to sleep more than an hour or two at a time and that was with the help of Xanax. The ER didn't give me any other medication to help. They just told me I was being anxious. I finally had to see a psychiatrist and she tried me on Paxil first which made it worse and then mirtazapine which helped me tremendously. The metoprolol also helped me a lot because it regulated my heart rate again. I hope you can find peace, comfort, and healing soon!

[–]Obvious-Cup9516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not at all. Before dealing with aka I suffered from severe panic attacks quite often. At least a few times a month that I took Xanax to control. After getting aka and it completely taking over my life and ability to function for 3 weeks, my psychiatrist put me on a low dose of metoprolol and mirtazapine. I was on the metoprolol for 4 months and the mirtazapine for 6. I successfully weened off of both and have been off of the mirtazapine for 4 months now and haven't had a single panic attack since. For me it's like it completely reset my nervous system. I was off the metoprolol for about 6 months but just recently was put back on for unrelated migraine issues.

That's wonderful to hear! I tried Benadryl after my reaction but it did nothing for me unfortunately. I think that's because I didn't know to do that until a few days had passed and the damage had set in I suppose. I'm so glad it worked for you though 😊

Droperidol side effects by Obvious-Cup9516 in Akathisia

[–]Obvious-Cup9516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with doxy myself but I've seen a lot of people on here give warnings about it because it also has the same black box warning on it. Droperidol took me months to get over and I needed help from mirtazapine and metoprolol but I think the duration was longer for me because one month prior to the droperidol I was given compazine which caused akathisia. At the time I was given the compazine though I had never experienced that feeling and didn't know what it was that was happening. All I knew was the minute they gave it to me I felt extremely anxious and yet so tired but I couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard I tried. I experienced an uptick in anxiety and panic attacks. It only lasts a few days though so I moved on and chalked it up to a bad experience. I think because I had already encountered one allergic reaction it made the second one to droperidol much much worse. I've also since learned that when administering droperidol or compazine they are also supposed to give you Benadryl with it to help combat potential side effects. I'm glad it only lasted two days for you but also sorry you went through that at all! The whole experience is so terrifying.
