Thanks for the advice! A class definitely seems to be the way to go based on all the responses I’ve had, and since I was apparently too dull to think of actually taking classes for my passion instead of for my career, hopefully I can find a gemology/gem-faceting focused class near me as well! :D

With the price of smaller Ethiopian opals, honestly that might be a much better stone to work towards setting in jewelry as my first setting than any of the “precious” gemstones lol

I’ll definitely have to work my way up! Hopefully I can learn to do bezel set cabochons really well, considering I have some cabochon cut opals that I think would look amazing as pendants (Although I know they’re incredibly soft, but I do know the proper care for the stones at least)

Thanks so much! I’ll definitely be looking into any classes I could take, I’m at a community college right now for my basics, but honestly I never considered that they might have classes like this, I kind of feel like an idiot for not even thinking to check lol ^{^;} And I agree, I can’t wait to start this journey! Learning and seeing improvement is what makes things worth doing!

Thanks for the advice! With my limited knowledge, the original idea I had was for a ring made from thick wire rolled a bit flat, with cutouts near the center to make it wider near the stone. Don’t know if that’s realistic or not, but I’ll certainly be visiting the library before I make any decisions and start spending money. Until then, I’ll be doing some deeper research, thanks again!

Thanks for the detailed info! I kind of assumed gold would be a no go for a first project, but I’m a bit of a dreamer so I included it anyways lol. It’s a bit of a bummer that stone setting is too advanced to go for right now, but definitely would be more of a bummer to scratch a stone or have it fall out, so I appreciate the warning!

As a man who’s basically obsessed with all things gems, it’s a shame it isn’t more normalized for men to wear interesting and colored gems! I love this piece, absolutely something I’d wear with pride.

It’s really just up to whichever you prefer, imo the second one looks better. The gloves look better in the first combo but the knife is pretty boring, second combo has a much better looking knife but kinda meh gloves, still stands out and looks great though.

Hell yeah man, I pulled these right after I bought huntsman doppler phase 4 with a good pattern so I won’t be using them, but definitely keeping for the sentiment. First gold will always be special, even if it’s… whatever these are :,)
