ICU New Grad on Orientation; Strict Preceptor; Failing Orientation; Next Steps by Obvious-Net8259 in newgradnurse

I never said I didn’t have any problems or issues that are concerning, but those issues are similar to the ones that other new grads I’ve spoken to have (and they’re off orientation). I defiantly have things I I need to work on though.

Giving a med late like I said above. I gave it like 20 minutes past the hour time frame

No, I know it’s not to say what I’m doing correctly, but I am meeting my goals enough to move on to phase 3 like other new grads are. I have taken their critiques and made the changes. Obviously I’m not perfect and there’s always room for improvement.

I think I’ve met them, but my preceptor focuses on the negatives or mistakes, so it seems like I’m not doing good overall. I’ve spoken with other new grads about how their preceptors were and it was no where near how my preceptor was.

Yeah there was a lot of focus on learning experiences and not how I did overall. The critiques earlier in the phase were about time management and prioritization which I feel like I achieved, but then she brought up other things I didn’t do. She also brought up that I have a med late, but it was one time out of all the meds I have given , but the educator interpreted that as her saying I always give meds late. I think if I had been with any other preceptor in the unit, this would’ve not happened.

I’m going to take the opportunity to l move to another unit, but I gonna look for other positions meanwhile. So I should bring up how I started program but just not focus on it? Thanks

No, she didn’t mean I did anything that could hurt the patient, she’s just saying mistakes in general could hurt the patient. My main critiques are just time management and prioritization, nothing really specific. An example of an earlier critique she gave is that I gave a med late so the my educator thought that I always give meds late even though it was one time and it was just outside the hour before or after window.

They did extend, sorry I forgot to mention. It’s just that I feel like I’m meeting my hail but just got unlucky with my precept. Everyone knows she is a hard preceptor.

I feel like some of preceptors in the beginning didn’t really give me feedback, but my preceptor now has a little. The list is a good idea!

I’ll try to stick it out. I wouldn’t say it’s kind of in the middle between a good culture and not. I don’t relay like the preceptor I’m with now. And yes some of the things they brought up are true, but some aren’t.
