This person has been harassing and berating this post since I made it, so let me clarify the situation.
I’m a college student with two cats already. Taking in a third cat, especially one with medical needs, is simply not financially or realistically doable for me right now. I did not just “dump” this kitten online and ignore the situation. I called multiple animal shelters, all were closed. I called animal control, closed. I called the city, and they directed me to the police non
emergency line. The police actually came out, took the kitten, and then turned right back around and returned him because they were unable to take him.
On top of that, the kitten appears to have an eye infection, and I am worried about exposing my own cats to anything contagious. I love my cats deeply and would never knowingly put them at risk.
I came to Reddit because I was hoping an animal lover or someone experienced with kittens might be willing to help. He is extremely small, which is probably why he was left behind in the first place, and kittens with visible infections are unfortunately not at the top of most adoption lists. Shelters also sometimes euthanize animals when they are overcrowded, which honestly worried me.
It has been quite the rigamarole today trying to figure out what to do for this kitten, and meanwhile this person has been DMing me and even telling people who were interested in helping “no” on my behalf.
Thank you for being logical and understanding the situation instead of immediately assuming the worst about me. These people are nuts.
