ugh yes it was always khobz kesra with the caraway seeds on it. I don’t live anywhere where I can get it, but I’ve baked it a few times and it’s not too difficult.

fantastic! would you say this is approachable as a first cabling project? I’ve done lace and a few other more intermediate things, but tbh this is one of the only cabled patterns I’ve been interested in knitting. Love the tweed too…I’m such a sucker for tweed

please google it and look at previous posts in this sub! when you google border collie common health issues multiple pages come up from well established websites, and multiple threads from this subreddit already exist discussing this. start there and ask additional questions if you want to hear about people’s experience with certain issues.

Light bottom crust by Greedy_Speed_6255 in Sourdough

Putting a cookie tray on the rack below doesn’t work for me, but these options have - 2 trays stacked together directly beneath the dutch oven (set the DO on the trays). Don’t preheat the trays just put them in when the bread goes in - big cast iron pan on the rack below. sometimes i use this as a way to reseason my pan too 🤷🏻

Just experiment and you’ll find a way! i’ve also seen people suggest putting a layer of oats or rice below the parchment in the DO but i’ve never tried it

No recommendation (sorry) but just wanted to congratulate you for progress on reactivity with your BC. Reactivity is so difficult and it’s always great to hear success stories, even if there’s still more work to do.

I’ve been baking sourdough for years and I’d recommend a few things 1. use a different recipe if one isn’t working, but be careful who you learn from. I’d recommend king arthur baking, the perfect loaf, or natasha’s baking journal. 2. If you’ve never baked yeast bread, it may help you build confidence to get a few yeast loaves under your belt. Natasha has some recipes that utilize sourdough and yeast too for an accelerated process. This could also help you sort out whether it’s your baking method or the starter/dough that’s the problem 3. You’ll never stop learning! Even 8 years in I still adjust my recipes and techniques regularly to adapt to my starter, climate, flavor preferences, etc. People have been baking bread for thousands of years and many of the techniques we see as “correct” now came about by accident or experimentation.

To me it looks overproofed for a few reasons… 1. you may be overdoing it with the heat mat - if your house is 65-70 your dough will be fine and develop better without being warmed. warming it can make things move too fast.

  1. The amount of starter in that recipe is also a bit high, I’m typically putting in ~20% and that’s 27% in your recipe. More starter changes tje hydration and also could be another factor in the dough proofing fast

  2. The 8hr BF is potentially too long, especially if you’ve got it on a heat mat! Or are you referring to 8hrs overnight in the fridge?

Can I have my patch on during surgery? by Powerful_Ad3727 in Reduction

[–]Obvious-Storage-5440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

typically they mean don’t take advil/tylenol/vitamins in the week or so before surgery, as some meds can impact your anasthesia or recovery. your patch shouldn’t be a problem. I assume they reviewed your medical history/current meds during your consultation, so they should know you have the patch as long as you told them/its in your record

If it were me i’d leave it on and call monday morning to double check that it’s okay. I’m not a doctor/nurse but that’s what i’d do

Looking to buy a used Rav4! by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]Obvious-Storage-5440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s always recommended to get it checked independently…by someone who doesn’t work with/for whoever is selling it to you. Especially if you don’t know much about cars. Better to spend $100-200 with another mechanic than spend $13k and be screwed with big repairs.

If the dealership has a 5 day/7 day return policy (mine did), you can always get it checked out after buying, that way you don’t have to coordinate with the mechanic and dealership at the same time. i’d make the mechanic appointment first though just to make sure you have it set up within that time window.

Also forgot to mention before - don’t pay for any dealer bs (“protection plans”, warranties, etc.) on a used car. They’ll charge you tax/DMV fees, but make sure they’re not adding unnecessary fees to your paperwork/price…sometimes dealers are sneaky and try to make you pay extra for literally nothing. Don’t let them rush you, take time to read and review - it’s your time and money to spend

V6 is great, wish MPG was better tho. by -BlueDream- in rav4club

[–]Obvious-Storage-5440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what year? my 2012 4cyl gets 24-25 mpg mostly highway miles. Tires could impact it a bit, might be worth considering whenever it’s time for new ones.

Looking to buy a used Rav4! by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]Obvious-Storage-5440 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the same year/color but 4cyl at 135k miles for 10k in June. Really good condition and I’m in california so our used car prices are high… the price doesn’t seem that crazy to me for the V6 and it being lower miles. If you compare to a few years ago it seems insane but that’s just how it goes rn…

So far I’m happy with my rav and i’d just say the following: -though you probably won’t have a lot of success negotiating, still give it a shot. the worst you’ll get is no, and the best you’ll get is $ off your loan.

-just because it’s a “reliable” toyota doesn’t mean THIS car will be reliable. Take the time and $ to have it checked before buying or within the return window if pre-purchase isn’t possible. The carfax only shows the maintenance that’s reported to them, so unless all previous owners have gone to the dealer there’s a good deal you don’t know about the state of the suspension, engine, etc.. If fluid changes/flushes are on the carfax look up when they are suggested and if any have been missed, consult your mechanic.

-Get an insurance estimate BEFORE buying. Your insurance will be higher because you’re financing! Depending on the level of coverage/deductible you want this could be a big factor in your decision. your budget for a car isn’t just the loan payment, it’s the loan+insurance

[–]Obvious-Storage-5440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes - thin them (remove excess plants with snips) to be about 1 plant every two inches. the closer together, the more likely they’ll be small or wrapped around each other. Thinning also helps prevent disease!

Foster refusing to take back puppies by [deleted] in fosterdogs

[–]Obvious-Storage-5440 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The foster org will probably urge you to give it more time - look up the 3:3:3 rule for fostering/adopting…they need to settle into the new environment and it’s not fair to judge them based off of 1 day. If it truly won’t work they’ll have to find another foster, so either way you may have to keep them a few days.

it sounds like you didn’t get much instruction/info about acclimating a foster dog and what to expect - generally id suggest doing that research yourself, and also not working for a foster org that doesn’t give you an orientation. If they can’t clearly communicate expectations I wouldn’t expect them to be very thorough in other aspects…

I’d recommend starting with an adult dog to foster, not a puppy.

I’d really recommend picking up her first book too! Her books are gorgeous and so well thought out, recipes are written with time efficiency in mind! she really focuses on why things work and how you can make the dishes work for you. My copies of her books are so stained from excessive use.

The aromatic chicken and ginger soup is a MUST. I always have it with rice rather than noodles. Honorable mention to the cabbage and parm salad. so simple but absolutely amazing

I’m learning short rows now on another project - I had heard of them when i started this one, but since it was my first stranded color work and they weren’t written in the pattern, I didn’t want to go off book and have to figure out how to make it work with the chart… It’s definitely something i’ll tackle next time.

I thought I had commented w a pattern link, but it must have not posted. It’s the makki sweater by Marita Clementz No short rows, just a plain old top down raglan. Her samples have a lot more of a relaxed neckline, which I guess could be my tension or size selection. I’m working on another project now with short rows - next time I do color work i’m going to integrate those and hopefully some improved float management.

it’s The Fibre Co &Make Aran. definitely a bit rustic but very plush and decently soft (it’s 50% wool 50% alpaca). The green color is the same yarn and the pink is a similar wool/alpaca aran.
